National Safe Boating Week Safety Tips!

It's officially National Safe Boating Week and our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to help spread awareness. Boating is one of the most fun summer activities at our beautiful lake. With that recreation comes some danger. Summerset Boat Lifts wants to help keep everyone safe and remind you of the safety precautions you should take any time you are boating!

What is National Safe Boating Week?

National Safe Boating Week will be held from May 22-28, 2021, reminding all boaters to brush up on boating safety skills and prepare for the boating season. This observance week is the annual kick-off of the Safe Boating Campaign, a global awareness effort that encourages boaters to make the most of their boating adventure by being responsible.

Top Boating Safety Tips:

Always Wear a Life Jacket

A life jacket can save a life. Many people think they don't need a life jacket because they are a good swimmer. Being a good swimmer doesn't help if you are involved in a boating accident. You may be disoriented or even worse, unconscious.

Be Aware of Surroundings

Just like on the highway, the traffic on the water can change in an instant. When driving a boat, you must be aware of all other boaters on the water, and other objects along the water. This can help you more safely navigate your way through boat traffic and in and out of busy boating areas. If you aren't comfortable in type of areas, consider staying to a less crowded part of the water.

Designate a Sober Captain

If you plan on drinking out on the water, make sure you have a designated captain to safely operate your vessel. Just like getting behind the wheel of a vehicle, driving a boat is a big responsibility and having your complete attention is vital for a safe boating experience.

Life Jacket Fit Test:

It's important that your life jacket fits properly. Check out some quick tips to ensure a safe fit.

  • Make sure the life jacket is properly fastened
  • Check the weight and size of the life jacket to ensure it is a good fit for you
  • All straps, buckles, or zippers are secure
  • Hold arms straight up over your head
  • Ask a friend or guardian to gently pull up on the lifejacket to assure a snug fit

With the big holiday weekend upon us, it's important to keep these safety tips top of mind while you're out on the boat. If you have any issues with your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks, give our experienced service time a call right away! May is National Water Safety Month and we want to point out a few safety factors you should keep in mind, especially if you're traveling to watch fireworks on the water:

  • Always make sure you have enough life jackets on board for every passenger.
  • Have a designated captain.
  • Bring plenty of water to keep your crew properly hydrated.
  • Know where the fire extinguisher is on board at all times.
  • Take time navigating to and from firework displays.
  • Refresh on the rules of the water before entering a crowded space, like a firework display.

Now's the perfect time to start solidifying your Memorial Day Weekend plans with your crew. Be sure to share which fireworks display you're most excited to catch with your group. Ways a Lift Can Protect Boat or PWC this Summer

Boating season has arrived at the Lake of the Ozarks! While we are all thrilled to get our boats and personal watercrafts out on the water, it is a good idea to keep them safe this summer. You spend a lot of money on your boat or PWC, and it is important to protect your investment to keep it in good condition for many years to come. If you are looking for the ultimate water experience, a boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks is going to do just that! Read on for some tips about how a lift will save your watercraft this summer.

Quality and Safety of Watercraft

Storing you boat or PWC in the water 24/7 year-round can cause extensive damage and decrease the value of the vessel. This will lead to more maintenance and work for you in the long run. By having a lift for your watercraft, you will never have to worry about it coming untied to the dock or sinking at the dock. A lift will also improve the safety of your boarding experience. Spend more time enjoying your boat or PWC this summer by getting a lift that will keep your vessel out of the water and offer support and safety during the busy season.

Protect Your Watercraft from Rough Waters

A lift can keep your vessel safe all year long. The Lake of the Ozarks can experience some rough water conditions and keeping your boat or PWC from bouncing around on the rough water all summer long should be a top priority. Your lift will keep your vessel in place as waves splash up around it. This will ensure that your boat or PWC does not ram into your dock causing damage to your boat, PWC, or dock. Installing a lift will also prevent the rough waters from dislodging your watercraft and having it drift away.

Saves You Money

By storing your boat or PWC on a lift, it will be much easier to maintain. If your boat or PWC sits in the water for a long period of time, algae will build up and corrosion will occur. Not only does this cause the need for extra cleaning, but it can cause maintenance issues, such as needing to repaint the bottom of your watercraft. By storing your watercraft on a lift, you will decrease maintenance and reduce the likelihood of it getting damaged from floating debris, which in turn reduces your repair costs.

Protect Your Watercraft this Summer!

Watching your boat or PWC bounce around in the water is not a fun feeling. Make a lift an essential this summer by getting a Summerset Boat Lift installed today! We can help build a boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks that fits your boat and slip perfectly, no matter the size. From canoes to cruisers, we lift them all! Contact our team to learn more about the options we have available for your unique boat size and style.
