Tips for Boat Owners to Prepare for Winter

The boating season is coming to a close. As many boat owners at the Lake of the Ozarks start to line up their winterizations, it's time to think about your dock and lift, as well. Here at Summerset Boat Lifts, we know how important it is to ensure your lift is in prime working condition before the harsh winter weather hits. The freezing temperatures is NOT a time for your lift to break and let you (and your boat) down. Take a look below to learn a few different ways boat owners can prepare for the upcoming season!

Prepare your BOAT for Winter

It's important to winterize your boat and PWC before it gets too cold. During the winterization process, the fluids will be drained from your vessel. This can help prevent the liquid from freezing, expanding, and cracking an important component of your boat. This time of year is also a great opportunity to make any mechanical or cosmetic repairs. From buffing your paint to repairing a chip to breaking down the engine - winter is the best time to have these type of repairs completed. Your boat isn't being used anyway!

Prepare your DOCK for Winter

Your dock goes through a lot as the temperatures drop. The floatation devices can be damaged by the lower lake levels of winter if your dock sits on dry land. The sharp rocks and tree branches in the lake can puncture these flotation devices, as well. If the water around your dock freezes, it can damage these tubs, as well. Your dock being frozen in one place can be rough on the structure, especially on the catwalk and connection lines. If you have water lines ran to your dock, consider winterizing it, as well. Another way to prepare your dock for winter is to ensure all the bracing and structure is sound and ready for the potential weight of ice and snow.

Prepare your LIFT for Winter

Your lift works hard during the off season. Not only does it hold your boat out of the water, but it also protects it from the harsh winter weather. Up on a lift is a safe place for your boat - as long as your lift is in good working order. That's where we come into play! This time of year is a great opportunity to ensure your lift fittings and bracing are all in place and tight. This is an important step as you get your lift ready for winter - especially if your boat is being stored up on a lift. The last thing you want is to find your boat in the water when checking on your dock this winter!

Now that you know some of these tips for boat owners at the Lake of the Ozarks, you're ready to focus on protecting your vessel all winter long. From winterizing your boat to ensuring your lift is solid to keeping your dock afloat, there are a number of ways to protect your property this winter. If you'd like us to check out your lift, contact the best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks today! Here at Summerset Boat Lifts, we'll have our trained and experienced staff on your dock and inspecting your lift in no time!

Lifting Your Dreams... No Matter The Size

No matter what size, Summerset Boat Lifts can help protect your boat this coming winter. While traditionally people used to remove their boats from the lake over the winter, it's becoming more and more common (and much easier) to leave your boat up on a lift. Here at Summerset Boat Lifts, we can help prepare your lift for the long winter ahead - no matter what size boat you own! Take a look below to learn about the various boat sizes we can lift!

PWC Lifts

Our personal watercraft lifts come in 3 styles: side-mount, single front-mount and double front-mount. The side mount PWC lift is ideal for those looking to save space, as the footprint on the dock is only 5 1/2 feet instead of 11 feet. The flagship of our PWC line, the poly tank front-mount unit is quite capable of withstanding any water conditions. The single-tank by design will hold your watercraft higher out of the water than a double-tank would. The double is an extension of our popular single tank design.

4,000 & 6,000 LB Lifts

The 6,500 lb lift is an ideal capacity for almost every tritoon on the Lake of the Ozarks. the mechanism and structure of the lift are well-suited for the rough waters that our lake has to offer during the busy summer months. From a 24 foot deck boat to a 27 foot tritoon with a 300 hp outboard, this is the boat lift for your needs.

8,000 & 10,000 LB Lifts

Our 8,000 lb boat lifts are unique to the industry in that the structure has c-channel on the bottom of the tanks, which allows the weight of the boat to be distributed across many more points than the competition. The 10,000 lb lift utilizes the same structure and mechanism, giving you the opportunity to grow into a bigger boat utilizing the same lift later on.

12,000 - 17,000 LB Lifts

Our 12,000 lb lift is a heavy-duty 6-arm mechanism designed for the rough waters of the Lake of the Ozarks. Our 14,000 lb lift is our first 3-tank system and builds on the foundation of our 12,000 lb lift. The 17,000 lb lift caps off the trio of 6-arm mechanisms available. It is perfectly capable of lifting many of the 34 to 35 foot day cruisers.

20,000 LB & Bigger Lifts

Suited for many 37-41 foot day cruisers, the 20,000 lb lift is an 8-arm mechanism that features four structures that create a rigid box to dissipate the weight of the boat over many points on the lift and dock. The 24,000 lb lift is available in an 8-arm or 10-arm mechanism. The four tank system offers a superb weight to width ratio, offering great stability for your boat. Larger lifts can be custom built just for you! Your exquisite taste in big boats demands the best in boat lifts.

The wrong size boat lift can be detrimental to your vessel. If your lift isn't able to properly lift your boat out of the water it may break and allow your boat to sink down into the water. Protect your boat and lift your dreams with our Lake of the Ozarks boat lift company! If you are unsure your lift is the right size for your boat, give us a call today. We look forward to lifting your dreams!
