Top 3 Reasons to Invest in a De-Icer

The cold weather hit the Lake of the Ozarks hard this week. As the freezing temps and ice wrecked havoc on land, there's still a little more time to prepare before the water starts to freeze. Ice in the water can damage your dock, lift, and boat in a number of ways. Our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks knows it's best to prevent ice from forming with an in-water de-icer. If you're debating whether to invest in a de-icer or not, check out some of the reason why Summerset Boat Lifts thinks you should buy one today!

1) Erase Worry About Your Dock and Lift This Winter

If you have a de-icer you don't have to worry about the water freezing by your dock. The de-icer will keep the water moving, therefore, preventing the ice from becoming solid. This can also help prevent you from having to go down to your dock in the freezing temperatures and checking on your dock all the time. When it's that cold outside you should be able to stay in the warmth of your home.

2) Keep Your Investments in Good Condition

You spend a lot of money on your water toys - protect what you've worked so hard for with a de-icer. This can help protect your dock, boat, and lift by lowering the chance of ice to form and causing damage to your property.

3) Help Prevent Damage to Your Property

Ice can cause dock, lift, and/or boat damage in a number of ways. If your dock has ice all around it, it is unable to move like it naturally does. This can actually cause your dock lines to snap due to excessive tension. Your dock floats can also be damaged from ice forming against or hitting the tubs. Ice can cause your boat lift to malfunction and in some cases leave your boat to fall into the water.

How Our De-Icer Works:

Kasco De-Icers are known throughout the world for their quality, durability, and effectiveness. The Kasco D-Series De-Icer became a staple of the industry by tackling some fiercely challenging applications. The de-icer works by moving large volumes of warm, bottom water to the surface. This eliminates and prevents ice formation around boats, docks, pilings, bulk heads or any other property you need to be protected from damaging ice formation. The water flow eliminates damaging ice expansion and ice jacking, as well as provides excellent aeration for winter months. The unique design of this product provides superior flow and excellent energy efficiency to solve your de-icing needs in a cost effective manner. By using a Kasco De-Icer, you are ensuring your property is protected from the harsh winter conditions.

Now that you know why you should invest in an in-water de-icer at the Lake of the Ozarks and how our Kasco De-Icers are the clear choice, you're ready to order yours today! Contact our Lake of the Ozarks boat lift company today to get yours ordered and to schedule your install. While we're on your dock, it's a great time to also schedule a routine maintenance check of your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks. Give us a call today!

Safety Tips for Being Around Water in the Winter

Many people think about being out on the water when the suns out and the temps are high. There are some instances when you may find yourself near or on the water during the winter months, as well. While boating safety applies to year-round boating activities, there are a few extra precautions you should be aware of if you plan to be around the lake this winter. Whether you're checking on your boat, out for a cruise, or casting a line, there are a some safety tips that should be top of mind. As the best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks, we truly care about our customers and want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable experience near the water. We know how many awesome family memories can be made on the water and we strive to keep safety top of mind, if you choose to be near the water during the winter months.

Always wear a life jacket.

While this is not required by law for adults, it's a good idea to wear a life jacket when you are on or near water, especially in the winter months. Falling into the water when temperatures are freezing can quickly send your body into shock, making it difficult or impossible to breathe.

Share your plans.

It's encouraged to let someone on land know your plans for the day. Whether you're going down to the dock for an hour or out on the water for a day, ensure your plans are known. Also, let the person you share your plans with know your whereabouts and the estimated time of return, in case someone needs to send help.

Be aware of other boaters.

While there are less and less boaters out on the lake during the late fall and winter months, it's still important to be aware of what's going on around you. You may have let your guard down this time of year when there's not as many boaters but you should always be thinking about others on the water near you.

Dress in layers.

Layers make it easy to remove some clothing, if needed. This can also help keep some body heat in, if it is cooler than you planned for. Dress warmer than the air temperatures calls for, if you're spending time near the water. Many times the winter breeze and cool air off the water can make it feel even cooler than the air temp.

Now that you have some water safety tips under your belt, you're ready to enjoy being around the water year round! If you're concerned about your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks this winter, have our team at Summerset Boat Lifts check it out! We offer boat lift maintenance at the Lake of the Ozarks as well as new boat lift installs to ensure your lift is working like it should. Give us a call today to schedule your lift maintenance!

Popular Boat Storage Options

Traditionally, a boat would be removed from the water and stored on land during the off-season. While that is still an option, many boat owners prefer to store their boats on the water during the winter months. Not every boat in our area has a trailer and it can be tricky to find one the right size and shape for the specific boat you're wanting to store. And finding space to store your boat on land can also be difficult in our area. As the best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks, we know it's important to be informed about all of your boat storage options as winter quickly approaches.

Trailer Your Boat

Storing a boat on a trailer is a common storage method if you have a trailer for your boat. It does require some time and ramp access to trailer your boat and store it. There is also some added cost of land storage or storage unit fees.

Store at Marina

Many marinas around the area will offer storage options for the winter months. The professionals can remove the boat from the water with a trailer or crane and safely store your vessel on land. Again, this storage method will cost a fee for removal and storage from the marina.

Leave on Boat Lift

Leaving your boat on a lift all winter is a convenient storage solution that is relatively popular in our area. If that's your plan for your vessel this winter, it's important to have your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks inspected to ensure it's ready for the long and cold winter that's just ahead! You want to make sure your lift is ready for the tough job of protecting your boat all winter long. It's a good time to have our team at Summerset Boat Lifts inspect your lift and make sure all the moving parts and joints are looking good.
