Schedule Your End of Summer Lift Maintenance

Your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks saw a lot of action over the past few months. From lowering down for a day out on the water to protecting your boat from the rough waters all weekend, your lift does a lot to protect your boat. As the summer nears an end, now's the perfect time to have your boat lift maintenance performed at the Lake of the Ozarks. Here at Summerset Boat Lifts, we not only specialize in creating the best boat lifts at the Lake of the Ozarks, but we also pride ourselves on offering exceptional repairs and maintenance. Check out the items we look over as we perform your lift maintenance.

Visually Inspect Lift

A visible issue may go overlooked but our technicians are trained to spot potential problems that may seem like something normal. We can visually inspect your lift to ensure everything looks good and will be ready to protect your boat during the off-season.

Check Moving Parts

The moving parts get worn out over time and now's the perfect time to ensure they are working well. We can help lubricate the moving pieces to help prevent further strain on the joints of your lift. This can also help keep plastic or rubber pieces of your lift from drying out and cracking.

Tighten Fittings

Fittings can wiggle lose over time. With the waves and constant up and down of the busy summer on the lake, nuts and bolts may move around a bit. We take this opportunity to tighten all the fittings and joints down to offer a stable lift for your boat this winter.

Spot Potential Issues

If something may be an issue in the near future, we can catch it early on. A timely repair can be done and have your boat back up and protected in no time. Have confidence in your lift as we move into the off-season when you may not be keeping as close of an eye on your lift as you maybe would during the summer months.

Preventative maintenance on your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks can help catch a problem before it causes your lift to fail. There's nothing worse than finding your lift has failed or broke during the off-season. Keep your boat protected all fall and winter when you have a lift check performed by Summerset Boat Lifts! Contact the best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks to schedule your fall maintenance check today. We look forward to helping you protect your boat this off-season!

Boat Lift Preventative Maintenance Tips

Your boat lift gets a lot of use this time of year and it's important it is working like it should since you reply on it to protect your boat. Our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to help point out some maintenance tips to help keep your Lake of the Ozarks boat lift functioning properly. Check out some of the easy things you can check on your lift and the benefits of doing regular maintenance checks below.

Preventative Maintenance Checks:

Visually inspect any cables and or hoses regularly for any broken strands, punctures, etc. Also, check over the motor and bearings for any damage or part wear. Lastly, look over all working or moving parts for signs of excessive wear.

Try to grease the gears at least 3 times a year.  You can grease them more frequently if the lift is used regularly -- grease after every 15-20 uses.  With new installations, its recommended to grease the unit after the first 5-10 uses.

Whenever possible, raise your lift out of the water and rinse it.  Leaving it submerged for prolonged periods of time accelerates deterioration and keeping it cleaned off will keep it looking and functioning like new!

Spray all motor parts with a corrosion preventative lubricant at least twice a year.

We recommend you operate your lift occasionally during the off-season or extended periods of no boating activity to keep the motor contacts and brushes clean and everything evenly lubricated.

Due to normal wear, the drive belt can become loose over time and it's best to re-tighten it regularly.

Benefits of Maintaining Your Lift:

Extend the life of your lift.
Protect your investment that helps keep your boat or PWC out of the water and safe all year long. Regular maintenance can help increase the longevity of your boat lift. Get the most out of your lift and ensure it is well maintained and working properly.

Prevent lift failure.
Regular maintenance can help make sure your lift is working like it should. With a little attention throughout the year, your lift joints and other weaker places are inspected. Any moving points are also lubricated to help reduce the friction that may cause a break over time.

Protect your boat.
Your boat is a major investment and your lift works hard day in and day out to protect it. Keep your lift maintained to ensure it can do its job to keep your boat up out of the water and make it easy to board and de-board when you're ready to enjoy it during the boating season!

Now that you know some quick maintenance tips and the reasons you should pay extra attention to your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks, you're ready to keep your lift working properly. If you'd like help with your boat lift maintenance at the Lake of the Ozarks, we're your team. Boat Lift Maintenance Tips

Your boat lift is likely not something you think about until it's time to use it. If a lift is not properly maintained, it may not work as it should. You depend on your lift to protect your boat and to make it easy and safe to get in and out of your boat. Our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks knows it can be frustrating when a lift does not work right. This week, Summerset Boat Lifts is providing some tips to help ensure your lift is properly maintained. But don't forget to read till the end, the last one is the easiest for you!

Boat Lift Maintenance Tips

Follow these boat lift maintenance tips to ensure your boat lift is always in proper working condition:

1) Start with a complete visual inspection of all moving parts, bushings, hoses and hose clamps. If you see something that doesn't quite look right, give Summerset Boat Lifts a call to come to check it out.

2) Check all nuts, bolts and hose clamps with a wrench for tightness.

3) Check all cables and hoses for any broken strands, punctures, etc.

4) Grease the gears several times per year. It's recommended that you grease them after every 15-20 uses.

5) Due to normal wear and tear, the drive belt can become loose, so be sure to tighten it regularly.

6) Remove the motor cover and clean out any debris that may have gotten in there. It's also a good idea to inspect the motor for any visual damage or part wear.

7) Spray all motor parts with a corrosion preventative lubricant semi-annually.

8) Check carpeted bunks for worn areas and tears, repair or replace them as necessary.

9) Inspect the condition of wood bunks and replace them if any are cracked or split.

10) Whenever possible, raise your lift out of the water and give it a good rinse. Leaving it submerged for prolonged periods of time can reduce its life. Rinsing it regularly will keep your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks looking and functioning like new!

11) Let Summerset Boat Lifts ensure your lift is properly maintained! We don't only build the best boat lifts at the Lake of the Ozarks, we pride ourselves on offering high quality service for our customers, as well. Ways a Lift Can Protect your Boat or PWC

Summertime is best spent out on the water at the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks. Many people spend their hard-earned money on watercrafts to make new memories on the lake. It's important to protect the vessels while you're not using them and that's something many people don't even think about. A boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks is vital to the care of your boat. Learn how a lift from Summerset Boat Lifts can protect your boat all summer long.

Ways a Lift can Protect Your Vessel:

Reduce Chance of Sinking
It's pretty common for a boat to sink while sitting in its slip. Whether it's a small leak or a bilge pump that's gone bad, a boat may start to take on water without you even knowing of it. Next thing you know, your boat has sunk below the water surface, which can be a huge cost to retrieve it and repair it. A lift can help keep your boat up out of the water and more protected against sinking in the lake.

Keep Boat Out of Water
Over time, the water can damage or stain your boat's paint coating. The hard water and slime from the water build up on your boat's surface and can wear down the protective coating and even penetrate and damage your boat's paint. Help reduce the amount of time your boat is just sitting down in the water by storing it on a lift when it's not in use.

Protect Boat from Rough Waters
Our lake is a beautiful recreational spot but that also makes for some rough waters, especially on holiday weekends. Keeping your boat out of the water and upon a lift can help reduce the number of times your boat slams into your dock.

Easier to Clean and Care for Boat
A lift can help you easily access your boat. This makes it much easier to clean and take preventative precautions to protect your boat, such as wax. Here at Summerset Boat Lifts, we even have the option to add a walkway next to your boat lift to make cleaning and protecting a breeze.

Keep Debris Away from Boat
A lot of water drains into the lake and this can cause debris to float around the water, especially after a hard rain. Keep logs, sticks, leaves, and other grime away from your boat when you lift it out of the water.

7 Things to Pack for a Fun Holiday Weekend on the Boat

Are you planning a weekend out on the Lake of the Ozarks this 4th of July? With the long holiday weekend, the Lake will be a popular place over the next few days. Boating is a top activity in the area and our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks knows how much fun it is to spend time out on the water with your friends and family. Check out some things you should remember to bring with you as you prepare for your boating activities this weekend!

1) Fuel Up With Snacks

Depending on how long you're planning to stay out on the water, you might want to bring some snacks. Even if you're planning to stop at one of the local waterfront restaurants for lunch or dinner, boating works up an appetite. Having some snacks on board can hold you over until you reach your stop. Fruit, chips and nuts are all easy snacks to bring for a fun day on the water. You might even consider packing some sandwiches if you don't want to spend money stopping for food.

2) Pack Plenty of Bottled Water

The 2nd most important item to bring on the boat, which might actually be tied with number 1, is bottled water. It's extremely easy to become dehydrated while out in the sun all day on a boat. Make sure you bring enough bottled water for everyone on the boat to stay well hydrated throughout the day. If you're drinking alcohol on the boat, your chances of becoming de-hydrated are even higher, so be sure those people get plenty of water as well.

3) Don't Forget the Beach Towel

What's better than boating all day? Jumping off the boat into the cool lake water or riding on an inflatable behind the boat! Once you get back on the boat though, you'll want to have a towel to dry off. When you get going fast, the wind against your wet skin can be quite chilly. Beach towels will come in handy to not only dry yourself off but to also dry the seat or other items on board that might accidentally become wet.

4) Protect Your Face with Sunglasses and a Hat

In addition to sunscreen, you'll want some sunglasses to protect your eyes from the suns harmful rays. The summer sun at the Lake of the Ozarks is bright, especially when it's gleaming off the water. You'll get tired of squinting all day long, so grab a pair of sunglasses and maybe even a hat. A big floppy hat for the ladies not only looks cute but also protects your eyes, face and sometimes even your shoulders from the sun.

5) Regularly Apply Sunscreen

The #1 item you don't want to forget when you're preparing for a day on the water is sunscreen! Even if your boat has an awning, you'll want to make sure you protect your skin from the suns rays. While some people are lucky enough to just tan, it doesn't take much for the rest of us to burn. Either way, everyone should use sunscreen, and be sure to re-apply it throughout the day. Don't forget your lips can burn too, so bring some chap-stick with SPF in it too.

6) Pack Extra Clothes and a Jacket

If you're planning on staying on the water until the evening hours, you might consider bringing a dry change of clothes and a jacket. It can get pretty chilly on the water at night after the sun has gone down. You don't want to be wet and freezing the entire ride home. If you have children, you might consider bringing a blanket for them to cuddle up with for the cool ride back. Grab a beach bag to throw everything in to keep it together and dry!

7) Bring Your Cell Phone and Charger

In case of inclement weather, getting lost or some other type of emergency, you'll want to have a cellphone on board to call for help. Be sure you know how to reach the water patrol or coast guard if needed. The phone can also come in handy to blast your favorite music or keep the kids entertained if they get tired of being out in the hot sun. Be sure to bring a charger as well in case it runs out of juice.

Now that you have a list of things to pack as you hit the water this holiday, you're ready for a fun day on the Lake of the Ozarks. If you run into an issue with your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks, it can put a damper on your boating day. Give Summerset Boat Lifts a call if you notice an issue with your boat lift this holiday weekend. We look forward to getting you back out on the water with confidence!

Stay Safe this 4th of July at the Lake of the Ozarks

Nowhere else does the Fourth of July quite like the Lake of the Ozarks! Not only do we have an ample amount of fireworks at the lake, but watching them from the water provides a front row seat to the show. However, our number one priority for boating on the fourth is safety! With Summerset Boat Lifts safety tips, you can have a fun Fourth while boating safely!

Boating Safety Tips

Holidays at the lake mean an increased amount of boat traffic on the water. With our boat safety tips, you can help to avoid the boating hazards this holiday weekend.

1. Designate a Captain: We understand that part of the holiday fun includes drinking for some people. Before departing for the day, make sure to designate a sober driver that can safely drive during your holiday celebrations. Don’t forget—the law for drinking and boating is the same as the law for drinking and driving in Missouri. The operator’s blood alcohol content should never be over .08%!

2. Bring Life Jackets: While boarding the boat before your holiday festivities, make sure you have enough life jackets for everyone on board (and ones that fit every passenger). Kids should always be wearing their life jackets while boating!

3. Don’t Speed: Increased traffic on the lake means the possibility for a boating accident increases. One way to help prevent an accident is to watch your vessel’s speed. Operating at a manageable speed decreases the risk of an accident and allows for more reaction time if something does happen.

4. Stay Alert: Unfortunately, no matter how safe you are while boating, you can’t control how safe other boats are being. Help prevent yourself from an accident by staying alert and being aware of all other vessels in the area around you.

5. Check the Weather: The lake is no stranger to storms. The forecast can change without much warning, so make sure to check the weather right before you go out on the boat. Knowledge of that day’s weather can help prevent surprise weather that may make it harder to operate on the lake.

6. Swimming and Tubing/Skiing: Summers at the lake can get hot! A popular way to cool down is to jump in the water. With the increased number of boats on the holiday weekend, it’s important to practice safe swimming and towing practices. While swimming, make sure to find a calm cove with minimum boaters where anchoring is legal. If towing a tuber or skier behind the boat, make sure to have a spotter to keep watch of the skier/tuber and an orange or red flag to display when the towed person is in the water.
