Tips for a Safer Boarding Experience

Boating season is in full swing and you're likely climbing on and off your boat on a regular basis. Our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks knows that it can present a few dangers to you and your crew. Our latest blog is all about making your boarding experience a little safer! Summerset Boat Lifts has included some tips to make your experience safer for all.

Kiddos don't always slow down or realize the gap between a boat and the dock is water (and dangerous water with lift arms and lift tubs, at that). Some elderly boaters have a hard time swinging their leg up over the edge of a boat or aren't confident as they step down onto a dock from a boat. Help ease those worries and help make your dock a safer place to get on and off your boat with the safety tips below!

Encourage the use of handles.

When others are getting on or getting off your boat, try to ensure to use of handles. If you don't have handles readily available, consider adding handles to your boat or dock support near the location you typically board.

Consider a boat with easy access.

If you are really worried about others around your dock, think about the ease of getting on and off your boat when purchasing your next vessel. Some boats have a swim platform that makes getting on & off the boat easier since it is closer to the same height as the dock. You may also consider a boat that has a gate that swings open or closed for a walkway instead of having to step down onto a seat.

Get a helping hand.

Try to support your guests as they get on and off your boat. A helping hand for stability can really help your friends and family feel more comfortable as they step up or down from the boat or dock.

Ask for assistance with heavy or awkward objects.

Loading a heavy object on a boat can be quite a task. Ask for assistance with any large or heavy object, like a full cooler. This can help reduce your chance of missing a step or losing your balance while trying to load the boat for a day of fun on the water.

Install a boat lift walkway.

A lift walkway can make it much easier to board and disbark from your boat! It's especially helpful if your lift is wider than your boat. It makes it a breeze to get on and off your boat AND is really handy for cleaning the exterior or putting a cover on your boat.

Install a PWC platform.

We have a composite PWC platform lift available that completely covers the open spaces around your PWC. Get one installed today to make your experience a safer (and less worrisome) one!

Now that you've likely gotten a chance to look over our safety tips, you may be ready to have a walkway or platform installed with your lift. Contact the best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks today!

Boating Gift Ideas for the Lake Loving Dads

Father's Day is a little over a week away and now's the time to start planning your purchases to treat dear ole dad! If your dad loves spending time out on the water, a boat-related gift is a perfect item! Our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks knows how much dad will love those boating gifts! Whether it's something simple or an extravagant item, there's a ton of options when it comes to boating gear!

Boating Gear

Buoys, towels, and hats are all popular gift items this time of year. A personalized buoy can give your boat a touch of your personality or even help you show off your favorite sports team. The boat lover will use these boating gear gifts on a regular basis this summer!

Floaties

You and your crew usually use floaties around your dock and boat all summer long. No matter if you're coving out or swimming by your dock, a float can help make it more enjoyable (and easier).

Towable

Tubes, skiis, and wakeboards are all popular towable gifts. If the person on your list loves spending time out on the water, you can't go wrong with a new towable!

Dock Locker

If someone on your list loves hanging out on the dock, they are probably in need of a dock locker. This is a great place to store boating and swimming items and help protect them from getting misplaced and keeps your gear organized.

Dry Bag

Any boat lover will likely use a dry bag or case. It's a watertight case that helps keep your belongings dry. This is a huge protector for phones - which are a common item to be dropped in the water and ruined!

Remote Control Boat Lift

Our Lake of the Ozarks boat lift remotes makes controlling your lift from a distance a breeze. Contact us today about installing one and stop jumping off and on the boat to let your lift down as you leave and return to your dock.

Day on the Water

While a tangible gift is always a great gift idea, most Dads just want to spend time with their families. And what better way than doing what they love? Plan a fun day on the boat with dad this Father's Day! Another fun gift idea is to go eat at Dad's favorite restaurant on the water! It's a memorable day everyone will enjoy!

Happy Father's Day!

Start thinking of what your dad needs for a stress-free and enjoyable day out on the water. You'll be thought of every time your father pulls out his new boating gear for a day of boating fun! That's the kind of gift that keeps on giving (and makes you feel like a gift-giving rockstar)! Summerset Boat Lifts wishes all of you kids good luck in finding the perfect item (we hope our list of ideas helps) and want to take a moment to wish all of the dads out there a Happy Father's Day!

How a PWC Lift Can Make Your Life EASIER!

A personal watercraft is one of the most common toys for those who live on or near the water. It's a blast to hit the water for a quick cruise or get your thrills jumping waves. Either way, PWCs are an investment and it's important you care for them with a PWC lift at the Lake of the Ozarks. Here at Summerset Boat Lifts, we provide the best PWC and boat lifts around! Check out how a lift can make your life easier, as an owner of a PWC:

It's common knowledge that a lift can help protect your boat or PWC. Storing it up out of the water can help delay and even prevent corrosion that can happen if you leave your vessel in the water all season. From scum growing on the bottom of your PWC to it getting bounced around on a rough day, it's best to store on a PWC lift at the Lake of the Ozarks. A lift also makes it easy to launch your PWC. Whether it's a drive on or up on a hoist system, your PWC can be in the water and ready for action in no time! Our lifts even make it easy to place a cover on your PWC when you're done for the day.

PWC Lifts at Summerset

At Summerset Boat Lifts, we offer a variety of PWC lifts to meet your needs. For a single PWC, we offer a sidemount and a front-mount option. We also offer a double place style for those with more than one PWC that needs lifted out of the water.

Sidemount PWC Lift

The side-mount mechanical lift is available for the homeowner with property line issues. It’s a space-saver in that the footprint on the dock is only 5 1/2 feet instead of 11 feet.

Single Place PWC Lift

The flagship of our PWC line, the poly tank front-mount unit is quite capable of withstanding any water conditions. The design of the frame gives a smooth modern look and superior strength. The flotation tanks are some of the largest in the industry and this means you WILL have dry feet when you want to maintain or cover your craft, GUARANTEED.

Double Place PWC Lift

The Double-Place Personal Watercraft lift is an extension of our popular single place design. For considerable price saving over purchasing two single’s, the double is available in several configurations. The width of the frame can be fit to most popular slip widths including 10, 11, 12 & 14’. The frame is also ideal for the discriminating boater that wants to fully deck the unit.

PermaPort

The PermaPort floating platform is an alternative in the PWC storage market. The PermaPort has a self-centering entry roller for easy drive-on and five additional keel rollers to make the push off effortless. A key feature is the expanded poly foam fill that gives positive floatation should the shell become compromised – other brands are simply “filled with air” and will “fill with water” when punctured… The front-mount bracket has been upgraded to be Lake of the Ozarks friendly as well.

If you're looking to invest in a personal watercraft or have one already that you'd like to better protect, there's no better place to go than Summerset Boat Lifts! We are proud to offer the Galva-Hoist product line of floating boat lifts! They're engineered to withstand the rough waters that the Lake of the Ozarks experiences each summer. Our new PWC lift sales are complimented by pre-owned sales so you can find a lift to fit your budget. Contact us today at 573-348-5073 for more information about our personal watercraft lifts at the Lake of the Ozarks!

5 Common Lift Issues to Watch for This Summer

Your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks works hard every day -- even days you don't use it. While protecting your boat and keeping it up out of the water, your lift can wear down over time. As the best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks, we're pointing out some of the common lift problems you should keep an eye on this summer.

1. Makes a New Sound when Lifting or Lowering

Your lift shouldn't make a lot of sounds while going up or down. Obviously, there's going to be some sound as the air is pumped into the tubes, but loud clanks or grinding sounds are a warning sign that something isn't moving like it should.

2. Signs of Wear on Cables

The cables on your lift do a lot of work. Over time, these may become worn or even rusty from being exposed to water. If you start to notice your cables aren't looking like they once did or not working like they use to, it's time to get your lift looked at to avoid a potentially damaging break down the road.

3. Parts Aren't Moving Smoothly

There are a number of reasons the parts on your lift may stop moving like they should. From debris in the water getting trapped in a moving part to joints wearing out, keep an eye on the moving parts of your lift to help prevent a more serious issue.

4. Structure Appears Damaged

If there is visible damage on your lift, it's time to call Summerset Boat Lifts! Our crew can quickly get on your dock and make needed repairs to help keep your boat, dock, and remainder of your lift safe.

5. Lack of Lift Control Response

When you switch your lift on, you expect it to immediately turn on. If there's a delay or the lift is working intermittently, there may be an issue with the wiring which should be addressed as soon as possible.

There are a number of potential issues that can arise with a boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks and that's why Summerset Boat Lifts offers maintenance service. If you're starting to notice one of the above issues (or another lift problem that's not listed), it's time to call us and schedule your Lake of the Ozarks boat lift repair. We look forward to checking out your lift, making a timely repair, and getting you back out on the water in no time!

It's National Safe Boating Week!

National Safe Boating Week is May 16-22, 2020. Just in time for a big holiday weekend that kicks off the summer, we're going to cover some important boating safety tips. Our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks knows how important boating is to many families. New memories with friends and family members are made year after year on the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks. Here at Summerset Boat Lifts, we want to help keep safety top of mind as we enter into the first holiday weekend of summer. Check out some top safety tips you should keep in mind as you prepare to hit the water this weekend!

What is National Safe Boating Week?

Many boating accidents can be prevented with awareness. The National Boating Safety Council has partnered with the National Weather Service to form National Safe Boating Week. This week was created to help drive awareness of safe boating practices. There are a number of resources available at www.safeboatingcampaign.com/resources/.

Top Boating Safety Tips:

Always Wear a Life Jacket
A life jacket can save a life. Many people think they don't need a life jacket because they are a good swimmer. Being a good swimmer doesn't help if you are involved in a boating accident. You may be disoriented or even worse, unconscious.

Be Aware of Surroundings
Just like on the highway, the traffic on the water can change in an instant. When driving a boat, you must be aware of all other boaters on the water, and other objects along the water. This can help you more safely navigate your way through boat traffic and in and out of busy boating areas. If you aren't comfortable in type of areas, consider staying to a less crowded part of the water.

Designate a Sober Captain
If you plan on drinking out on the water, make sure you have a designated captain to safely operate your vessel. Just like getting behind the wheel of a vehicle, driving a boat is a big responsibility and having your complete attention is vital for a safe boating experience.

Now that you have a reminder of safe boating practices, you're ready to hit the water this weekend with confidence. Be a vigilant boater and try to make safe boating decisions anytime you are near the water on a boat or PWC. It's also important to be a responsible boat or PWC owner. Keeping your investments up out of the water can protect them and increase their longevity. The best boat lifts at the Lake of the Ozarks can help you best protect your vessels! Give Summerset Boat Lifts a call today to see which boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks is best for your unique needs.

The 14,000 lb lift is built on the foundation of the 12,000… by simply increasing the length of tank capacity rises to handle 32 to 34’ boats and can also be the correct choice to handle the extra weight of mechanism, structure and walkways in a wide-well situation.
Capacity: 14,000 lbs.

P-170 Boat Lift

The 17,000 lb lift caps off the trio of 6-arm mechanisms available. Capable of lifting many of the 34 and 35 foot day cruisers, the 17,000lb lift is again “best in class”. In the “go fast” line of boats, the 17,000lb lift handles many 42’s with triples.

Avoid These Common Boat Issues with a Lift

Properly caring for your boat can help increase the lifespan of your vessel. There are many potential hazards that come along with storing your boat in the water. A boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks can protect your boat in a number of ways. From banging around your slip on a rough water day to the buildup of fungus on your boat's paint, a boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks can help protect your investment. Here at Summerset Boat Lifts, we know your boat provides a lot of fun times and memories for your friends and family and we can help protect that source of joy!

Algae Growth on Bottom

When a boat sits in the water, algae beings to build up on the bottom where the boat surface touches the water. There are all sorts of dirt, grime, and algae found in the lake and these particles will quickly build up on your boat surface, if it's in the water 24/7.

Damage to Boat or Dock

A boat lift can help protect your boat. Keeping your boat raised out of the water can help prevent damage to your boat. With the rough waters at the Lake of the Ozarks, your boat will likely beat and bang off your boat dock over and over. This repeated bouncing around will quickly cause damage to both your boat and your dock.

Damage & Discoloration to Paint

The algae and other growth that takes place on the boat surface can damage the clear coat on the bottom of your boat. This will require regular cleaning and fresh coats of paint and clear coat throughout your boat's life. Help prevent this unnecessary damage when you store your boat out of the water.

Mussels Attaching

The Lake of the Ozarks is known to have zebra mussels. These mussels cling to hard surfaces (like boats that are sitting in the water) and take over. A mussel attaching to your boat can cause significant damage over time.

Outdrive Corrosion

Your boat is made to be in the water but over time the water can cause corrosion to your outdrive. The ability to store your boat out of the water can help increase the longevity of your vessel.

Now that you know a few of the way a boat lift can protect your investment, you're ready to call the best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks! Contact Summerset Boat Lifts today and we'll build the best boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks to fit your unique boat and dock needs.

Must-Have Items as You Hit the Water this Spring

Boating is an acceptable activity while practicing social distancing. Our Lake of the Ozarks boat lift company is sure you're starting to look for unique ways to stay entertained during the COVID-19 crisis. Even if you're still working due to being an essential employee, you're likely eager to find ways to relax when you're not at work. Boating is one of the most fun and entertaining ways to pass the time. Summerset Boat Lifts is here with a helpful check list of must-have items when you head out on the water this spring.

Required:

Life Jackets
Not only for your own safety, but also to follow state law, you need to have enough life jackets on board for everyone. According to Missouri state law, children under the age of seven are required to wear a life jacket at all times while on board a watercraft, unless they're down in the cabin. You are also legally required to have a throwable flotation device on board at all times.

Boating Registration and License
Make sure your boat registration is current. It's important that you're following state laws while operating your watercraft. If you were born after 1984, a boating license is required by law. Ensure you've taken and passed the boaters safety course and have needed license to prove so.

Fire Extinguisher
All boats are required to have a fire extinguisher on board. Ensure your extinguisher is in good working order and up to date with boating regulations. Also ensure everyone on board knows where it is located, if someone needs to access it in a hurry.

Encouraged:

First Aid Kit
It's important to have a well-stocked first aid kit can help make sure you can address incidents, everything from small nicks and cuts to sea sickness. You can either buy a kit or make your own that includes gauze, band-aids, scissors, latex gloves, cotton balls, antiseptic lotion, pain relievers and tweezers. This should handle the majority of minor injuries that may take place. If something is more serious, ensure the injured person gets medical attention immediately.

Food and Water
One of the most important things about being out on the water is staying hydrated. Make sure you bring enough bottled water for everyone on board. Depending on how long you're planning on being out on the Lake, you should also bring lunch or at least some snacks. It can be easy to get caught up in a day out on the water but it's important to stay nourished.

Sun Protection
If you're spending any amount of time outside, it's important to apply sunscreen. Even if it's cloudy outside, some of the worst burns can happen when it's overcast. Have plenty of sunscreen with SPF of at least 30 on board for your boating crew. If you have small children, a 50 SPF or higher is recommended.

Now's the perfect time to prepare your boat for the upcoming season. Boating may be the only getaway you and your family can experience while practicing social distancing. Whether you're getting to-go orders from waterfront restaurants, cruising down the lake on a beautiful day, or trying to reel in the big one, boating is a fantastic way to enjoy the great outdoors right now! As you're preparing your boat for the busy season ahead, ensure your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks is in good working order. Our team can come perform boat lift maintenance on your lift.

As more and more boats are out on the lake right now, our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks is going to cover some boating safety tips.

1) Stock your Boat

Ensure your boat is ready for the season ahead. This involved making sure you have enough life jackets on board for all passengers. You also need to have boat registration, a throwable PFD, and a fire extinguisher on the vessel. Gather these items before you hit the water this spring!

2) Bring Clothing Layers

The temps may be warm but the feels-like temperature can drop once you're out on the boat moving. The cooler wind across the water and the boat moving can both cause the temperature to feel much cooler than it is. It's best to be prepared and pack some additional layers for your spring boating outing.

3) Check Weather

Missouri weather can change within minutes. It's best to check the forecast before dropping your lift and heading out on the lake. If you're already out and notice a shift in weather, head back to the safety of your dock. Being out on the lake during a storm is dangerous. It's best to keep an eye on the weather before you launch and while you're out boating.

4) Be Aware of Surroundings

The water level is still relatively low and there is an increase in boat traffic on the lake. Keep an eye on other boaters and be aware of low water areas. With lower and fluctuating water levels, it's best to steer clear of low spots. Hitting the bottom can cause serious damage to your boat, cause injuries to you and your passengers, and bend or break your propeller.

5) Share Boating Plan

Someone on land should know your boating plans. This involves the area in which you're planning to travel and your estimated time of return. If you aren't back within a reasonable amount of time of your planned return, this information can help if a search needs to be conducted.

Bonus Tip: The water is still much colder than the air. Jumping or falling in the water may cause your body to go into shock and make it difficult to breath and swim to safety. It's best to wear a life jacket when you are around the water, especially this time of year.

The best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks wants to remind everyone to take extra precautions as boating season takes off this spring. There may be an increase in boat traffic due to area businesses closing or allowing employees to work remotely. Remember to be aware of your surroundings when boating on the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks!

Clean Your Boat & Dock Up for Spring

It may not be the most fun option, but it's got to be done at some point this spring! Clean up your boat and tidy up your dock while the weather is nice but not too warm. If you clean your boat up now, the next nice day you'll be able to get out there and play!

Dine on the Water

While many water restaurants are closed, some of offering take out options. You can actually order, pick up your food, and then eat it on the comfort of your boat. Another option is to pack a picnic and dine out on the water that way!

Start a Boat Parade

Everyone could use a little more joy these days. Make a parade out of your boat ride. Before you know it, you may have all your neighbors out on their decks waving back or better yet, on their boats joining in!
