Don't Let Your Boat Sink!

When you think of a boat sinking, you probably think about a boat out in the middle of a lake or an ocean that, through a series of unfortunate events, ended up taking on water. An image of the Titanic may come to mind, and in that case an unseen iceberg was the culprit. Unfortunately, it doesn't take some big catastrophe to sink a boat; in fact, a boat could sink while sitting in its dock slip.

Faulty Boat Lifts

Just last weekend a boat lift on the Lake of the Ozarks broke, causing the boat sitting on it to sink. When the tow boat arrived, the boat was almost completely submerged in the Lake. Reportedly, one of the arms on the lift broke. Once it broke, the boat just slid right off the back of the lift and into the water. The dock was located on the main channel, which meant it was subject to some especially rough waters. Surprisingly, these incidents are quite common, with 4-5 other boats also suffering the consequences of this same situation so far this year.

How's Your Lift?

In light of the incident, all dock owners are encouraged to have their boat lift checked out to make sure it is solid and functioning properly. The waters here at the Lake of the Ozarks can be rough, and will take their toll on your boat lift. Summerset Boat Lifts is here to help!
