Tips for Boating with Your Furry Friend

Summer is upon us which means it's boating season! It also means the temps are warm, which can make it 'ruff' on your furry friends who love to boat. Our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to share some tips to make boating more enjoyable for your pets. Check it out:

Have a pet life jacket at the ready. 

If your pet were to fall overboard, they may be disoriented. Just like humans, it's important that your pet wear a life jacket while on the boat. Many pet life jackets have a handle on the top to make it easy to assist your dog back out of the water if they do get it. 

Provide your own water for your pet. 

Bring plenty of fresh water for your pet to drink and stay well hydrated, especially if it's warm out. Discourage your dog from drinking the lake water as it may be filled with contaminants and other harmful properties for your pet. 

Keep temperature top of mind for your pet. 

Remember your dog is wearing a fur coat at all times. If you are warm in your swimsuit, they are even warmer in their fur. Be conscious of your pet and how they are feeling in the heat. You want your pet to enjoy themselves on the boat and not cause them to become ill due to heat. If the temps are relatively warm, it's encouraged to leave your dogs at home. 

Have a plan for a shaded spot on board. 

Laying down in the shade can help your dog cool off. Make sure there is enough shade on your vessel for your dog to keep out of the direct sun. This can also help prevent your dog from getting sunburnt if they are in a shaded spot. 

Make a cozy spot for your dog to be on the boat. 

Bring your dog's favorite blanket or dog bed to make sure they have a soft and cozy spot to curl up during the boat ride. This can help them feel more secure if they have an item with a familiar scent on it, as well. 

Don't let your furry family members be left at home when you can make boating more comfortable for them during the warmer months of the year. If it's too hot or you'll be away from home for too long, it is advised to leave your pets but if you're out for a shorter cruise or out on a cooler summer day, your pet would love to ride along! Be a Part of Boating History at the Lake of the Ozarks!

The Lake of the Ozark's attempt at the Guinness World Record for the Largest Boat Parade is this weekend! That's right, June 12th at 9:00am (be lined up by 8:30am) is when the boat parade is taking place at the 19-26 MM. There's still time to register your boat and participate in this attempt to break a world record right here at the Lake of the Ozarks! Quick Parade Details:

Cost: $50 Per Boat – 2021 Lake Race Special!

Includes One shirt, One boat & One boat flag.

Boat Parade registration fees are going to support the largest firework display ever produced in Missouri on Tuesday, August 10th in celebration of Missouri’s Bicentennial.

Where: 19MM-26MM

All boats will be organized by size of the boat.  You will be asked to wait in your staged area until told to join the parade.

When: Saturday, June 12th Parade begins at 9am.  Must be in your holding location by 8:30am.

All About the Event:

The Lake of the Ozarks is excited to attempt to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Largest Boat Parade.  The record is currently held in Malaysia with 1180 boats.  Our goal is to not only bring this record to Missouri but to Lake of the Ozarks. We NEED your help to accomplish breaking this record!  All boats must register to be able to participate.  With your registration of $50 you will get one boat in the parade, a flag to put on your boat the day of the event, and one shirt.  There will be an option to purchase additional shirts when you register.  We want everyone in the parade to wear their shirts during the parade and to fly the flag on their boat.  It will help the adjudicator spot the boats in the parade as they go by. After the parade an adjudicator will do their final scoring and a press conference will be held to present the final number of boats and if the record was broke here at Lake of the Ozarks. The press conference is by invitation only but the entire conference will be streamed live for everyone to watch.
