5 Ways to Make Your Dock a Safer Place

If you own a waterfront home at the Lake of the Ozarks, there’s a good chance you have a dock on your property. Our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks knows how important it is to keep you and your guests safe on and around your dock this summer. Check out a few of our dock safety tips for a safe and fun summer ahead!

1. Avoid Leaning Over the Edge

Avoid leaning over the edge of your dock. We understand this can be tricky if you are working on something on your dock or if you're cleaning your boat. If you need to lean over the water while on the dock, have another person on your dock for safety reasons. If you happen to go over the edge, this other helper will be able to assist you in getting safely out of the water.

2. Keep Tabs on Everyone on the Dock

Keep tabs on all of your guests as they are on your dock and/or swimming around it. Have a buddy system in place where each person has another person they are to keep tabs on. This ensures every person is safe while having a great time at your dock!

3. Ensure Swimmers Have Floatation Devices

Encourage all swimmers to have some sort of floatation device handy, especially if there is alcohol involved in your lake day. Even strong swimmers can quickly become fatigued out in the summer sun all day. Whether it's a noodle, a floaty, or a life jacket, ensure all of the swimmers near your dock have a way to stay afloat in hand.

4. Encourage Swimmers to Stay a Safe Distance from Dock

Docks can be dangerous to be next to, especially if the water is rough in your location. A large wave can push you against the dock, or even worse, under it. Make sure you're swimming a safe distance away from your dock at all times. Encourage anyone who is jumping in the water to jump away from the dock, and not straight down, as well.

5. Get Dock Inspected Annually

Your dock should be inspected each year to ensure it's up to the latest safety protocol. Electrical safety is a big deal. Electricity and water don't mix. It's important that the electricity to your dock is inspected each year to ensure it's properly grounded to avoid a dangerous situation for you and your family.

We’re well into boating season and it’s a great idea to recap these dock safety tips to help ensure you and your guests have an amazing experience on the dock this summer! As you spend more time on your dock during the summer months, you may see some potential for some upgrades to the space. From WetStep dock accessories to adding a walkway to your lift, there are many ways Summerset Boat Lifts can complete your dock and make it a safer place for everyone!

3 Sure Ways to Make Boating with Your Pup More Enjoyable

We know that you love your pup more than anything. Want another way to spend time with them this summer? Bring them with you boating on Lake of the Ozarks this summer! Dogs’ worlds revolve around their owner. Boating with them is another opportune bonding moment.

At Summerset Boat Lifts, we understand you want to enjoy your boat in as many ways as possible (especially with your pup.) Quality over quantity, right? Here are some ways you can now start enjoying the boat with your doggo aboard for a long time to come.

1. Bring extra water aboard for you AND the pup (so they don’t drink the lake water)

Heat waves are coming in hot this summer! Yes, we are going to remind you of the cliché to stay hydrated.

Stay hydrated!

Both pupper and you need to have water handy while sailing all day long. Not only are we trying to avoid heat stroke this summer, but also, this refrains your dog from drinking the lake water and ultimately, causing illness.

Plus, let’s be realistic… Water helps maintain yours and pup’s energy all day long. Long lake days are the best ones!

2. Take safety precautions

We are sure your definition of fun doesn’t include doggo disasters, so we think it’s important to consider pet safety as a top priority. There are a few things to consider before getting your best friend aboard.

Yes, there are such thing as dog life vests. They can be found at specific pet shops and even, sometimes, boating shops. If worse comes to worst, your dog will be able to float in the water a lot easier than without a vest.

Another factor most dog owners do not take into consideration is sunscreen (and we don’t mean just for you.) Dog sunscreen is super crucial for most breeds of dogs with short hair. No need to worry—lightweight sunscreen, such as, SPF 15 should cover it. Be sure to check that the sunscreen is unscented or has a natural scent to avoid skin irritation.

Hopefully you have considered a plan of action when it comes to emergencies. When bringing your pup aboard, make sure that you update that emergency plan to include them. Accidents happen. Be prepared!

Let’s face it, the less time you have to deal with anything that goes wrong, the better. This preparation is stress relief. Ahhhh.

3. Put your boat on a boatlift

More than anything, we want you and your family (even the furriest members) to enjoy your boating adventures together for a long time. Most don’t know this, but there are ways to elongate your boat’s lifetime.

Invest in a boatlift for your boat! Summerset has found that most boaters wish they would have gotten a boatlift sooner to protect their boat.

I know you are wondering why it’s so beneficial to have a boatlift in your possession.

Keeping your boat above water when not in use, helps with less maintenance and upkeep. In fact, we have seen significant reduction in boat repairment after customers’ get their boatlift.

Additionally, boatlifts are a huge convenience. We don’t know about you, but it’s a good summer day when you are able to get in your boat with your dog and sail off within minutes.

Imagine being able to give your dog a lifetime worth of boating. Enjoyment on the lake is the top of our priority list for you and your furry friends.

When planning your next day out on the boat, consider the best ways to enjoy your time.

Consult us on ANY of your fun boating needs. You can learn more on our website at https://summersetboatlifts.com/.

See you on the lake!

The Lake of the Ozarks is gearing up to attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Record for the Largest Boat Parade! The boat parade is scheduled for June 11th near the Lake of the Ozarks State Park. Our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks knows how much you enjoy getting out on the water in the summer months and we want to invite you to be a part of this attempt to make boating history! June 11, 2022

Parade will begin at 11am

Currently, the record for the Largest Boat Parade is held in Malaysia with 1180 boats. Our goal is to beat this record to not only bring the World Record to the United States but to Lake of the Ozarks Missouri. We attempted to break the record in 2021 and we came close. We made some changes and we know we can break the record in 2022!

Parade participants may launch their boat at the Lake of the Ozarks State Park Grand Glaize Marina (Pa He Tsi) Boat Ramp.

Parade Rules:

- This record is for the greatest number of boats in a parade formation over a set course.

- This record is measured by number of participating boats.

- All skippers must hold a full license for their boat.

- Registration numbers of all boats participating in the parade must be provided during the registration process.

- Every participant counted who is within the barriers of the attempt area should fully participate in the attempt to the best of his or her ability. If, to the independent witnesses’ satisfaction, everyone is not fully participating, the attempt will end and must begin again.

- Each boat must display their participant flag so it visible to the GWR adjudicator, or that vessel will not be counted. Further instructions on which side of the boat to display the flag will be sent closer to the event.

- No political flags shall be attached to the vessel or that vessel will not be counted. This is a Guinness World Record Guideline.

- Your vessel must complete the entire parade route. Any vessels exiting early will not be counted.

- All vessels participating in this world record attempt must be moving – it is not acceptable merely to park them in a row.

- Additional information/parade instructions will be sent prior to the parade, including instructions of where you will line up for your size vessel.
