All About the Event:

The Lake of the Ozarks is excited to attempt to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Largest Boat Parade.  The record is currently held in Malaysia with 1180 boats.  Our goal is to not only bring this record to Missouri but to Lake of the Ozarks. We NEED your help to accomplish breaking this record!  All boats must register to be able to participate.  With your registration of $50 you will get one boat in the parade, a flag to put on your boat the day of the event, and one shirt.  There will be an option to purchase additional shirts when you register.  We want everyone in the parade to wear their shirts during the parade and to fly the flag on their boat.  It will help the adjudicator spot the boats in the parade as they go by. After the parade an adjudicator will do their final scoring and a press conference will be held to present the final number of boats and if the record was broke here at Lake of the Ozarks. The press conference is by invitation only but the entire conference will be streamed live for everyone to watch.

Ways Boating Can Bring You Joy While Practicing Social Distancing

With the virus quickly spreading, it's recommended to stay home and practice social distancing. If you must be in contact with someone that you don't share a home with, it's best to stay 6 feet apart. This can make many normal activities tricky but boating is actually a great way to enjoy the great outdoors while practicing social distancing. Our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks knows there's some beautiful days ahead and we want to encourage any boat owner that can to get out on the  water and enjoy! If you haven't had your spring boat lift maintenance at the Lake of the Ozarks performed, give Summerset Boat Lifts a call today and we'll ensure your lift is ready to take on the busy months ahead! If you're curious how your boat can come into play when being socially distant, take a look at a few ideas below:

Cruise Down the Lake

You've been itching to get out on the water and this is the perfect opportunity. A simple afternoon cruise down the water may be just want you need! Fresh air after being cooped up inside can do the body and mind some good. What's your favorite area to cruise this time of year?

Go Fishing

You always say you wish you had more time to fish. Well, here's your chance! Gather your fishing gear, jump in your boat, and hit the water. You never know, you may find a new sweet spot!

Clean Your Boat & Dock Up for Spring

It may not be the most fun option, but it's got to be done at some point this spring! Clean up your boat and tidy up your dock while the weather is nice but not too warm. If you clean your boat up now, the next nice day you'll be able to get out there and play!

Dine on the Water

While many water restaurants are closed, some of offering take out options. You can actually order, pick up your food, and then eat it on the comfort of your boat. Another option is to pack a picnic and dine out on the water that way!

Start a Boat Parade

Everyone could use a little more joy these days. Make a parade out of your boat ride. Before you know it, you may have all your neighbors out on their decks waving back or better yet, on their boats joining in!

The Lake of the Ozarks is a haven for boating in mid-Missouri. Our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks knows how much fun can be had on our beautiful lake. If you're thinking about buying a second home in the area or live here full time already, it's a great opportunity to take advantage of the awesome opportunities that are in our backyard. Check out just a few of the most popular boating activities you can enjoy at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Cruising down the lake.

The Lake of the Ozarks was voted the #1 Recreational Lake in the Country for a reason! The majority of people who vacation here year after year either bring a boat with them or rent one while they're here. Whether you're here with friends or here with family, boating is a great activity for everyone to enjoy.

Getting active with watersports.

If you're feeling adventurous, turn your day of boating into a day of tubing, skiing or wakeboarding. Nothing's better than feeling the wind and the water on your face as you fly behind the boat on a hot summer day! Watersports offer fun for people of all ages; you can also have a great time just watching someone being pulled behind the boat.

Casting a line when fishing.

One of the most popular activities to take part in on the Lake of the Ozarks is fishing. You'll find some type of tournament happening almost every weekend. The great thing about the Lake of the Ozarks is that it's perfect for fishing year round! From bass to catfish, there's a variety of things you can catch in the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks.

Enjoying a meal with waterfront dining.

There's no shortage of waterfront dining options at the Lake of the Ozarks. From Bagnell Dam out to the Niangua arm, you'll find a variety of different cuisines to enjoy for lunch or dinner while you're out on the water for the day. Don't forget to order yourself one of the signature Lake drinks too, like the Rum Runner, to help you cool off after a day in the sun!

Checking out local events on the water.

The Lake area has something going on just about every weekend throughout the summer months. From live music at your favorite waterfront bars to fireworks over the water for the holidays, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Check out www.FunLake.com for details on upcoming events on the water!

7 Essentials for a Day on the Lake

We've reached the peak of boating season at the Lake of the Ozarks! The weather is warm and there's no better way to spend your summer vacation than out on the water. Today's blog from Summerset Boat Lifts offers a list of essentials you'll want to bring with you before hitting the water for the day.

1. Sunscreen.

The #1 item you don't want to forget when you're preparing for a day on the water is sunscreen! Even if your boat has an awning, you'll want to make sure you protect your skin from the suns rays. While some people are lucky enough to just tan, it doesn't take much for the rest of us to burn. Either way, everyone should use sunscreen, and be sure to re-apply it throughout the day. Don't forget your lips can burn too, so bring some chap-stick with SPF in it too.

2. Bottled Water.

The 2nd most important item to bring on the boat, which might actually be tied with number 1, is bottled water. It's extremely easy to become dehydrated while out in the sun all day on a boat. Make sure you bring enough bottled water for everyone on the boat to stay well hydrated throughout the day. If you're drinking alcohol on the boat, your chances of becoming de-hydrated are even higher, so be sure those people get plenty of water as well.

3. Sunglasses and a Hat.

In addition to sunscreen, you'll want some sunglasses to protect your eyes from the suns harmful rays. The summer sun at the Lake of the Ozarks is bright, especially when it's gleaming off the water. You'll get tired of squinting all day long, so grab a pair of sunglasses and maybe even a hat. A big floppy hat for the ladies not only looks cute, but also protects your eyes, face and sometimes even your shoulders from the sun.

4. Snacks.

Depending on how long you're planning to stay out on the water, you might want to bring some snacks. Even if you're planning to stop at one of the local waterfront restaurants for lunch or dinner, boating works up an appetite. Having some snacks on board can hold you over until you reach your stop. Fruit, chips and nuts are all easy snacks to bring for a fun day on the water. You might even consider packing some sandwiches if you don't want to spend money stopping for food.

5. Beach Towel.

What's better than boating all day? Jumping off the boat into the cool lake water or riding on an inflatable behind the boat! Once you get back on the boat though, you'll want to have a towel to dry off. When you get going fast, the wind against your wet skin can be quite chilly. Beach towels will come in handy to not only dry yourself off, but to also dry the seat or other items on board that might accidentally become wet.

6. Extra Clothes and a Jacket.

If you're planning on staying on the water until the evening hours, you might consider bringing a dry change of clothes and a jacket. It can get pretty chilly on the water at night after the sun has gone down. You don't want to be wet and freezing the entire ride home. If you have children, you might consider bringing a blanket for them to cuddle up with for the cool ride back. Grab a beach bag to throw everything in to keep it together and dry!

7. Cell Phone and Charger.

In case of inclement weather, getting lost or some other type of emergency, you'll want to have a cellphone on board to call for help. Be sure you know how to reach the water patrol or coast guard if needed. The phone can also come in handy to blast your favorite music or keep the kids entertained if they get tired of being out in the hot sun. Be sure to bring a charger as well in case it runs out of juice.

Are we missing something on our list? Leave us a note about your essentials in the comments!

Don't forget that Summerset Boat Lifts is here for all your boat lift needs. We want to protect your boat, so that you can enjoy being on the water as often as you like. Brush Up on Missouri Boating Laws

With spring quickly approaching, now's the time to brush up on the Missouri boating laws. It's important that you know these laws to keep yourself and those around you safe while out on the water this coming season. Whether you're new to the boating world or you've been driving a boat for years, today's blog from Summerset Boat Lifts offers a quick overview of some of the laws you need to know.

1. Missouri Boating Education.

Boating education is currently required in several U.S. states and Canadian provinces. If you were born after January 1, 1984, you need a Missouri Boating Education card to operate a vessel on any Missouri lake. There is no minimum age requirement to take the online course and you do not have to be a Missouri resident to take the online course.

2. Operating a Vessel on Missouri Waters.

All persons must be at least 14 years of age to legally operate a motorboat or PWC unless under the direct, onboard supervision of a parent, guardian or other person 16 years of age or older. Those who are required to have the education mentioned above must carry their Boating Education Card on board the vessel with them and have it available for inspection by law enforcement. Not carrying the card can result in a fine.

3. Titling and Registration.

To legally operate your vessel on public waters in Missouri, you must register and title it. You have 60 days from the date of purchase to title your newly purchased boat, vessel or outboard motor. There is a penalty for not doing so. All motorized boats or vessels and any sailboats longer than 12 feet must be titled and registered. Once the boat is titled and registered, you will receive a "MO" number, decals and a pocket card. You must display the decals on the boat and keep the pocket card with you while boating. Your registration must be renewed every three years.

4. Dock Permits at Lake of the Ozarks.

Missouri State Law, in conjunction with Ameren Missouri Guidelines, requires that all docks on the Lake of the Ozarks display a dock permit number and the 911 address of the property the dock is most adjacent to. This will not only assist those unfamiliar with their location on the lake, but will also assist 911 call centers in dispatching the appropriate first responders during an emergency situation.

5. Life Jackets On Board.

Missouri law requires boaters to have a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket on board and accessible for each occupant of the boat. Children under the age of seven are required to wear a life jacket whenever they are on a boat unless they are in the cabin area of a houseboat or cruiser. All personal watercraft users are required to wear life jackets anytime they are underway.

6. Navigation Light Requirements.

Navigation lights are required to be displayed between sunset and sunrise, as well as during periods of restricted visibility. When underway, motorboats must have red and green sidelights visible from a distance of at least one mile away on a dark, clear night. An all-round white light or both a masthead light and a sternlight must be visible at least two miles away from all directions in a 360-degree circle. Unpowered vessels must have red and green side lights and a stern light visible from two miles away. If the unpowered vessel is less than 23 feet and those lights are not practical, you should have on hand at least one lantern or flashlight shining a white light. All vessels are required to use a white light visible from all directions when they are anchored or moored away from the dock.

7. Fire Extinguisher On Board.

All vessels are required to have a Type B U.S. Coast Guard approved fire extinguisher on board if flammable or combustible materials are stored on board in closed storage compartments, the vessel has closed living spaces, there are permanently installed fuel tanks, and/or flammable or toxic fluids are on board. The fire extinguisher should be placed in an accessible area, not near the engine or in a compartment.

8. Dangerous Boat Operating Practices.

According to Missouri law, the following boating practices are illegal: Reckless operation, including but not limited to, boating in restricted areas, disregard for posted speeds, ignoring wake restrictions, ignoring diver-down flags, boating while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and chasing, harassing or disturbing wildlife with your vessel; Overloading a vessel beyond the recommended capacity shown on the capacity plate installed by the vessel manufacturer; Allowing passengers to ride on the bow, gunwale, transom, seat backs, seats on raised decks or any other place where there may be a chance of falling overboard is prohibited unless the vessel has adequate guards or a railing.

This is not an exhaustive list of the boating laws enforced in Missouri. For more information on Missouri Boating Laws, please visit: https://www.boat-ed.com/missouri/handbook/.

Summerset Boat Lifts wants you to have a fun and safe time on the water this season.
