A Load of Crappie Tournaments at the Lake

The Lake of the Ozarks is a popular destination for fishermen, and this weekend is no exception. Two Crappie Tournaments are taking place at the lake this weekend on Saturday, October 8th, and Sunday, October 9th. Hosted by two different establishments, the events are open to all fishermen and promise a day filled with fun, excitement, and plenty of crappies. Cash prizes and awards will be given away, so grab your fishing rod and head to the lake. Summerset Boat Lifts has all the info you need to know for this weekend’s Crappie Tournaments!

What are Crappies?

Crappies are a type of fish found in many different bodies of water. They are typically about 9-14 inches long but can grow up to 18 inches in length. Crappies have a black lateral line that runs along their sides and a white underside. They are popular game fish because they are both tasty and challenging to catch.

Saturday Crappie Tournament

The first Crappie Tournament, hosted by Traffic Jam Pub & Grub, takes place this Saturday, October 8th at the Lake of the Ozarks. Anglers must register for the competition by 11:59pm on Friday, October 7th for a chance to compete. Entry is $55 per two-person team and includes two tournament t-shirts.

On Saturday, each two-person team can begin fishing at 7:30 am anywhere on the lake except for below the Bagnell Dam. Fishing is allowed from either a boat or the shore, and all Missouri Conservation rules apply to those participating.

Anglers must be in line for weigh-in at the Traffic Jam Pub & Grub no later than 2:30pm, and both teammates must be present. Each team of two can weigh a limit of 20 live crappies. Fish that are iced, mangled, dead, or determined to be previously caught will result in the team’s disqualification. Late submissions are subject to a 1lb penalty for every 5 minutes late.

Prizes will be awarded based on the largest Crappies caught. 80% of the total entry fees collected will be distributed to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.

Each team must clean its own catches, and cleaning stations are provided for your convenience. The fish will be fried up and served with sides for dinner. Fishermen always eat first, so remember to bring your filet knife!

Equipment Needed for Winter Boating

Have you ever wondered how people living on boats survive during the winter months? If the lake freezes over, your boat could sustain serious damage from the ice. Not to mention, the temperatures inside the boat would be freezing cold and uncomfortable to live in. Take it from our Lake of the Ozarks boat lift company – there are a few pieces of equipment you need for successful winter boat living.

Shrink wrap

Most boats are shrink wrapped for winter as it works well to insulate and protect the vessel from the cold weather. As long as you leave a doorway to enter and exit, you can shrink wrap the rest of your boat to keep the cabin a comfortable temperature.

Insulation

Adding an extra layer of insulation to your boat’s hull can do wonders for keeping cold air out and warm air in. Insulation also helps reduce condensation inside the boat, keeping any moisture from turning into mold.

De-Icer

A de-icing system is designed to keep water moving around your boat to prevent ice from forming. The de-icer pulls warmer water up from the bottom of the lake or river, which then melts the ice sitting on top.

Electric Heater

If you don’t have a stove on your boat, a portable electric heater is another great option for staying warm. Just plug it in and enjoy the breeze of the warm air surrounding you. If you do have a stove aboard, then cooking a hot meal with also help warm up the cabin.

Carbon Monoxide Detector

If using an electric heater, make sure to setup a carbon monoxide detector on your boat. Carbon Monoxide is a colorless and odorless gas and when inhaled can cause illness and death.

So, it is possible to live on your boat throughout the winter months with the right gear to assist you. One thing is for sure – the more equipment you have, the more comfortable you’ll be. By implementing these five pieces of equipment, you will be prepared for winter on the boat without any struggle along the way. When you’re ready to pull that boat out of the water, call Summerset Boat Lifts to get your lift setup or serviced. Our Lake of the Ozark boat lift company is second to none when it comes to expert skill and quality customer service.

How to Prepare Your Boat for Winter

Winter is coming and that means it's time to prepare your boat for the cold weather. By flushing the engine, adding antifreeze, and storing it in a covered area, you can make sure your boat is ready for winter. You should also remove all the electronics from the boat and store them inside. Finally, you should clean the boat and remove all the food and garbage so that mice and other critters don't take up residence over the winter. So, keep reading because Summerset Boat Lifts is breaking down how to prepare your boat for the winter months!

Flush

When winterizing your boat, it's important to flush the engine and add antifreeze. Flushing the engine removes any dirt, debris, or oil that may have accumulated over the summer. This will help to protect the engine from damage during the winter. Adding antifreeze helps to keep the water in the engine from freezing over, which could cause costly damage to your boat.

Clean

Make sure to clean your boat before storing it. This will get rid of any food or garbage that may have been collected over the summer. You'll need to clean the hull, decks, and interior of the boat. If there are any mice or other critters living on your boat, they will be less likely to stay if there's no food available.

Cover

After you've successfully winterized your boat, you'll need to store it in a safe, covered area. This will protect it from the snow and rain, which can cause damage as well. You should also remove all the electronics from the boat and store them inside, out of the cold. This includes the battery, the engine, and any other devices. This will protect them from the cold weather and keep them safe until you're ready to use them again next summer!

Let us at Summerset Boat Lifts tell you – winterizing your boat is an important step in preserving it for future use. By flushing the engine, adding antifreeze, and storing the boat in a covered area, you can protect it from the harsh winter weather. It’s also beneficial to remove all the electronics from the boat before storage to prevent any damage. Finally, make sure to clean the boat inside and out so that no unwanted critters stay for a winter vacation. By following these tips from our premier boat lift company, you will be thankful when your boat is in great shape for next summer!
