Boat Lift and Boat Dock Safety

The weather is warming up and boating season is upon us. While it's important to be safe while out on the water, it's just as important to have a safety first mindset when on the dock and dealing with your Lake of the Ozarks boat lift. Keep reading for some safety tips from Summerset Boat Lifts.

Boat Lift Safety

First and foremost, passengers should never be inside the watercraft while it is being raised or lowered. Also never let anyone be under a raised boat at anytime. Keep children away from the boat and lift while in operation. In order to not only keep yourself safe, but also your boat, it's important that you don't exceed the weight capacity of your lift. Keep in mind that the manufacturer weights do not include fuel and equipment. In addition, the published boat weights are dry weights, which is not always the same when the boat is wet. If you get a new boat that doesn't properly fit your current lift, contact the best boat lift dealer at the Lake of the Ozarks. We can hook you up with a brand new lift or often times, we can even modify the lift to fit your needs.

Boat Dock Safety

Staying safe on the dock is just as important as staying safe while on the water. It's particularly important to pay close attention to children when on the dock. Make no running on the dock a rule and make sure children always have life jackets on when on the dock and around the water. Be sure to regularly inspect your dock's structure to make sure there are no weak spots or places that could cause injury to those on the dock. Look for areas that are splintering, any nails that might be sticking up, mold or moss that could be slippery, etc. You'll also want to ensure the electrical is installed properly to avoid shock in and out of the water. Proper lighting is needed on the dock to ensure safety at night.

If you haven't already, now's the time to have your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks inspected. Keeping your lift and dock maintained will decrease the likelihood of problems and injury. Summerset Boat Lifts is here for all your Lake of the Ozarks boat lift repair and maintenance needs, as well as for the sale of both new and used lifts. 4 Benefits of Owning a Boat Lift

There are numerous advantages to owning a boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks. From keeping your boat safe from the rough waters during the summer to storing it safely through the winter, boat lifts are an important addition to your boat dock at the Lake. Keep reading to learn about a few of the benefits of owning a boat lift:

1. Keeps Your Boat Bottom Clean.

When your boat sits in water for long periods of time, it begins to develop algae build up on the bottom. By raising your watercraft out of the water with the help of a Galva-Hoist boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks, you can avoid this issue and reduce the amount of time and effort it takes to clean your boat.

2. Decreases Boat Maintenance Costs.

By storing your boat above the water line, you're not only decreasing the amount of cleaning needed, but also the amount of maintenance. Keeping your boat dry will help you avoid excess wear and tear on your boat, including the need for regular bottom painting. Storing your boat in the water can lead to issues in the boats structure and increase the chances of damage from floating debris, ice, etc.

3. Reduces the Likelihood of Your Boat Sinking.

Of all the boats that sink, about 85% of those situations occur at the dock. Lifting your boat out of the water with a boat lift will reduce the likelihood of your boat sinking while sitting at your dock. Boats can sink due to a variety of reasons, especially in the spring time. Check out our blog titled, "5 Reasons Boats Often Sink in the Spring" to learn more.

4. Makes It Easy to Launch Your Boat.

When you store your boat in the water on a lift, you reduce the launch time needed before you can enjoy the water. If you have to store your boat on land, on a trailer, you have to take it to a launch site and put it in the water each time before using it. By storing your watercraft on a boat lift, you are able to easily launch it and typically enjoy your boat more often. You'll be hitting the water in no time!

For all your boat lift needs, whether it's a new lift or repairs to your current one, Summerset Boat Lifts has you covered. Our new boat lift sales are complimented by pre-owned sales and servicing of many different brands of lifts. We're here to make sure you and your boat get the very best level of product and boat lift service at the Lake of the Ozarks!
