Top Boating Safety Tips

May is National Water Safety Month and we're taking this time to go over some quick water safety tips. With boating season underway, more and more people will be spending time out on the water at the Lake of the Ozarks. As our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks gears up for another season, it's important to refresh safety tips and keep them top of mind this summer.

1) Make sure you have enough life jackets on board for everyone. In addition, Missouri law states that children under the age of 8 are required to have a life jacket on at all times while boating.

2) Before you hit the water, check the weather forecast. You don't want to get caught out in the middle of the lake during a big storm.

3) Make sure that at least one person on board is familiar with all aspects of the boat's handling and operations. It's better if more than one person knows this as well, just in case the primary captain is injured or incapacitated in any way.

4) Be respectful of buoys and other navigational aids, all of which are there for your own personal safety and the safety of others on your boat.

5) Make sure your boat has all the essential safety equipment and communications tools. This includes life jackets, fire extinguishers, cell phones, weather radios, etc.

6) Develop a float plan and make sure that someone on land is aware that you are out on the water and the general areas that you will be boating in. In case of an emergency situation, they'll be able to direct help your way.

7) While out on the water, use common sense. This means operating your boat at a safe speed at all times, staying alert and steering clear of large vessels and watercraft that can be restricted in their ability to stop or turn quickly.

8) Consider taking a boating course. Beginning boaters and experienced ones alike need to be familiar with the boating safety rules of operation. While boater education requirements vary from state to state, Missouri law requires anyone born after 1984 to take the course and get a boating license to carry with them on the water.

Protect Your Boat From Common Maintenance Repairs

Owning a boat is exciting this time of year. As you gear up for boating season at the Lake of the Ozarks, there are a few things you need to check off your to-do list. Ensuring your boat is being properly protected with a Lake of the Ozarks boat lift should top your list. Save time and money on common repairs for boats that sit in the water when you use Summerset Boat Lifts. Learn more about the potential dangers that lurk by leaving your boat in the water all season.

Common Boat Maintenance Issues

When you store your boat in the water for long periods of time, a variety of issues can arise. Here are just a few common problems you could encounter:

  • Corroded Outdrive
  • Bubbled or Blistered Gel Coats
  • Mussels Attaching to Your Intake
  • Algae Growth on the Hull
  • ...and more!

Protect Your Boat with a Summerset Boat Lift

When your boat sits in the water for an extended period of time, you could experience hull delamination, intake fouling and more on your boat. By investing in a Lake of the Ozarks Galva-Hoist boat lift, your boat will stay dry and out of the water when not in use. While boats and other watercraft are designed to be used in the water, they weren't designed to be stored in water for long periods of time. Eventually, the water, and contaminants in the water, will effect the integrity of the boat. By raising your boat up on a lift, it will be easier to keep your boat clean. A clean boat bottom will not only reduce the likelihood of frequent painting but also result in better boat performance and fuel efficiency. Significantly reduce costly wear and tear on your boat by storing it above the water line with a lift from Summerset Boat Lifts.

Lifting Your Dreams

As the best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks, we know how important it is to protect your boat this summer. Don't fall victim to common boat repairs that can easily be avoided with the right boat lift! Give us a call today to get your dock and boat sized for a new lift and start reaping the benefits of a new Summerset Boat Lift!

The Top Reasons Your Boat Should Be on a Lift

The season to get out on the boat or pwc and enjoy the Lake with your family is rapidly approaching. As we prepare and plan for days out on the water, the last thing you want to find is an issue with your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks as it has been stored over the winter months.

Boats and pwcs are a big investment and we want to help protect them from any damage. If your boat has been on a reliable boat lift from Summerset Boat Lifts those issues are a thing of the past. Boat lifts are huge improvement to your dock at Lake of the Ozarks. Here are some great reasons you should have a lift from Summerset Boat Lifts.

Reasons to Have a Boat Lift

Time Saver

There are many time saving benefits of storing your boat or pwc up out of the water. A lift will obviously keep your bottom clean and clear of corrosion and algae. Over time algae and corrosion can deteriorate the hulls finish. This will save you time scrubbing or getting your hull refinished, keeping you enjoying your boat more and less time cleaning. With the stability that a boat lift provides, boarding and launching off a boat lift is safer and quicker. A Summerset Boat Lift will save you valuable time by not having to spend time doing avoidable maintenance and get you in the boat quickly, safely and you will be out enjoying the water in no time.

Preventing Damage

We talked about damage to the hull already, but corrosion is not all we have to worry about while our boats are parked in our docks. Damage to hulls by floating debris is also very common. With your boat on a lift fluctuating water levels, storms and ice are less likely to cause you troubles.  Another great reason to have your boat above the water line is to reduce damage to the outdrive, props and shafts. 85% of boats that sink, sink while in the dock. Putting your boat on a lift with dramatically reduce the chance of that happening.

Resale Value

More than likely you will decide to upgrade the boat in your dock currently. Whether you choose to sell the boat on your own or you choose to trade it in, you want to get the most out cash out it possible. If the vessel has been on a lift during your ownership, your boat will be in much better physical and mechanical shape than the boat that has been loaded on and off a trailer or been in a dock and sitting in the water all its life.

When you are ready to save time and money on a new lift, call the best boat lift company at Lake of the Ozarks. We will be able to answer any questions or concerns you have. Being a Galva-Hoist dealer and we will find the right lift for you no matter the situation. Lifting Your Dreams... From Canoes to Cruisers!
