Ways to Prepare Your Dock & Lift for Spring

Spring is here and boating season is right around the corner! While some of you may have ventured out already, the majority of boat owners haven't quite gotten their boats ready for the season. Our Lake of the Ozarks boat lift company knows there are a few things you should check off your list before you are fully prepared for boating season. Take a look below to learn about these steps you should take as you gear up for another great summer at the Lake!

De-winterize Boat

It's that time of year! With the freezing temperatures behind us, you're in the clear to de-winterize your boat. We know you're anxious to hit the water this spring! Get your fluids filled back up and test your motor for any issues from sitting all winter.

Inspect Dock

It's a good idea to have your dock inspected after the long winter. Your cables may need adjusting while the water is low, as well. An electrical company can come to test your electric lines to your dock to ensure they are properly grounded and your dock is safe for boating and swimming this summer!

Check Your Boat Lift

Just like your boat, you should check over your boat lift this spring. Ensure your lift is going up and down as it should. Also, ensure no fittings or brackets have wiggled lose over the winter. Our team would be happy to come out and check over your lift for you to ensure it's ready for a great summer!

As a dealer for Galva-Hoist, Summerset Boat Lifts employs personnel for all aspects of the boat lift business -- sales, shipping, assembly, installation and service are all provided by our own employees. We want our customers to relax knowing their boat lift needs are being handled by professionals. We don’t just sell you a lift, we sell you our service.

If you run into any issues with your lift, contact Summerset Boat Lifts and we'll send one of our team members out to check it out. Even if there isn't a visible problem with your lift, it's a good idea to have your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks checked over this spring. We can come out and take a look at your lift to ensure it is prepared for the rough summer waters that are right around the corner! Give the best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks a call today and we'll check out your lift!

Top Benefits of Owning a Boat Lift

There are a ton of advantages that go hand-in-hand with owning a boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks. From keeping your boat safe from the rough waters during the summer to storing it safely through the winter, boat lifts are an important addition to your boat dock at the Lake. Learn about the top benefits of having a boat lift from Summerset Boat Lifts.

Keeps Your Boat Bottom Clean

When your boat sits in water for long periods of time, it begins to develop algae build up on the bottom. By raising your watercraft out of the water with the help of a Galva-Hoist boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks, you can avoid this issue and reduce the amount of time and effort it takes to clean your boat.

Decreases Boat Maintenance Costs

By storing your boat above the water line, you're not only decreasing the amount of cleaning needed, but also the amount of maintenance. Keeping your boat dry will help you avoid excess wear and tear on your boat, including the need for regular bottom painting. Storing your boat in the water can lead to issues in the boats structure and increase the chances of damage from floating debris, ice, etc.

Reduces the Likelihood of Your Boat Sinking

Of all the boats that sink, about 85% of those situations occur at the dock. Lifting your boat out of the water with a boat lift will reduce the likelihood of your boat sinking while sitting at your dock. Boats can sink due to a variety of reasons, especially in the spring time. Check out our blog titled, "5 Reasons Boats Often Sink in the Spring" to learn more.

Makes It Easy to Launch Your Boat

When you store your boat in the water on a lift, you reduce the launch time needed before you can enjoy the water. If you have to store your boat on land, on a trailer, you have to take it to a launch site and put it in the water each time before using it. By storing your watercraft on a boat lift, you are able to easily launch it and typically enjoy your boat more often. You'll be hitting the water in no time!

As the best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks, we know how important it is to protect your boat. No matter what size of boat you have - from canoes to cruisers - we can help you lift it! Contact Summerset Boat Lifts today to learn how we can help you protect your investment.

Boat Lift FAQ'S

As you think about your boat lift, you likely have a few questions come to mind. Our Lake of the Ozarks boat lift company knows how important it is to have a lift you can trust and rely on. Take a look below for some answers to frequently asked questions about boat lifts.

Q: Why do I need a boat lift?

A: There are many reasons to own a Lake of the Ozarks boat lift.  First, you don't have to worry about your boat sinking if it is stored above water.  You also don't have to worry about it not staying tied to the dock and floating away.  In addition, boat lifts can increase the value of your boat because they keep them looking new over the years.  Leaving your boat sit in the murky Lake water can cause wear and tear on your boat.  Resale value will increase if you have a shiny clean hull free of grime and lake scum.  Storing your boat in the water is the primary cause of all damage below the water line.  Everything from lower unit wear to hull blisters can be prevented by storing your boat above the water line.

Q: What type of boat lift do I need?

A: Galva-Hoist is engineered at the Lake for the Lake...the Lake of the Ozarks.  The Galva-Hoist is extremely capable of withstanding the rough waters here at the Lake. From personal watercraft lifts all the way to custom 46,000 lb lifts, Galva-Hoist has you covered.  No matter what brand of boat or dock you have, the Galva-Hoist provides great value and performance all year round!

Q: What regular maintenance is required to keep my boat lift in great condition?

A: Your boat lift will definitely perform best if it is well maintained.  The rough water of the Lake of the Ozarks can really take a toll on your boat lift, so maintenance is key to extending its life.  By checking your lift to make certain that all pivot connections and bushings remain tight, you'll extend the life of your boat lift tremendously.  Its also a great idea to have your lift checked out by a professional regularly, especially going into the Winter months.  For more information on this subject, check out our blog titled, "5 Boat Lift Maintenance Tips You Can Perform Yourself."

Q: My current boat slip is too large for my current boat.  How can I utilize the space and still have access to my boat?

A: If you've got a 16' wide boat slip, but your boat is only 8' wide, you'll want to consider how your boat lift will accommodate your needs.  By offsetting your boat in the slip, you'll have access to only one side of the boat.  This is where a walkway becomes a great feature to invest in. The walkway can be built to the length of your boat, therefore regaining access to the other side of your boat. With guide posts to limit your travel and a walkway next to your boat, you've created a wet-storage situation where you can maintain and cover your boat with ease!

Q: If I already have a boat lift and purchase a new boat, can my lift be adjusted for the new boat?

A: Most people think that their current boat lift just needs a little adjustment to fit a new boat. However, this is rarely the case.  Boat lifts are based upon balance and if the weight of the boat is not properly distributed, misloading can occur and cause damage to your lift and boat.  Depending on the length and weight differences between boats, the lift may have to be moved within the slip, along with the bunks that hold the boat being adjusted.  Please take the time to call your Lake of the Ozarks boat lift dealer.

Now that you know some answers to frequently asked boat lift questions, you can feel confident when choosing a company to build or maintain your Lake of the Ozarks boat lift. Contact Summerset Boat Lifts today to get scheduled for your new lift or current lift maintenance. We look forward to providing a safe place for your boat!

Quick Tips for Attending a Boat Show

It's officially boat show season and you know what means - a ton of boating and lake-related vendors, all in one place! A boat show is a fun place to browse the latest and greatest in the boating industry. Summerset Boat Lifts will be attending the upcoming boat shows and we look forward to showing off some of our quality boat lifts and products. If you've got your eye on a new boat or PWC, you'll likely want to get a new Lake of the Ozarks boat lift to protect your new purchase. As you plan your trip to the next boat show, take a look below for some quick tips for shopping at a boat show.

Tips for Attending Boat Shows:

  • Do Your Homework - Before stepping foot into the boat show, do some research. You want to have some idea of what you're looking for or you can get easily overwhelmed. Make a list of questions that you want to ask the dealers. Be sure to have a budget in mind before you start your search as well.

  • Think About Financing - If you're serious about buying a boat, it's important that you have an idea of how you will pay for it. While some people may have the cash to buy a boat, most will need to get financing secured. You might want to consider getting a pre-approval before you attend any boat shows. By doing so, you'll better be able to set a budget for how much you can afford - and you won't be tempted to fall in love with a boat out of your price range.

  • Check Out the Show Guide - Many boat shows will have a list of all their exhibitors and vendors available prior to the show. Take a look at those and make a list of who's booths you want to be sure to stop by. With so much going on at these events, you can easily get distracted and miss something you wanted to check out.

  • Talk with the Dealers - Rather than just checking out the exhibits yourself, be sure to talk with the dealers. Ask the list of questions you prepared ahead of time. Not only are you looking for the best values in boating, you want to make sure you're working with a reputable and knowledgeable dealer. Customer service is very important when it comes to such a big investment as a boat.
