Check Your Boat Lift this Spring!

Boating season will be here before we know it! Our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks knows how exciting this time of year is. We can't wait to get our boats out on the water, either. Before the official boating season gets here, make sure you schedule your spring boat lift maintenance check at the Lake of the Ozarks. Here are some things to keep an eye on, too:

Inspect Lift for Damage

If your lift has visible damage, it's important to have that repaired as soon as possible. A broken brace or support arm could cause your lift to fail and your boat to end up damaged and in the water. If you notice a broken piece on your lift, it's best to stay away from the boat as it could fall at any time and contact a boat lift maintenance company at the Lake of the Ozarks immediately.

Lubricate Moving Parts

The moving joints of your boat lift have been stationary for the past few months. With the freezing temps and mixed in warm days, the moving parts may have some extra friction. Before lowering your lift, lubricate the lift arms and joints to ensure a smooth transition through the stages of the lift can be achieved by these brackets.

Check for Clearance

The winter months mean lower lake levels. Ensure your lift has adequate clearance below your slip. Hitting the rough and rocky ground can cause damage to your lift. From jolting and knocking the bracing lose to a rock puncturing a tank, there are many potential dangers that lurk at the bottom of the lake for your boat lift. Another thing to consider is any other items that may have moved underneath the water. Ensure your lift is clear of any tree stump or other underwater obstacle that may have shifted locations throughout the winter months

Schedule Lift Maintenance

It's best to have a professional come check over your lift before you can be certain it's ready for the busy boating season ahead. Our maintenance crew can be over to your dock and inspecting your lift in no time! Contact us today to schedule your boat lift service at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Boat Lift & Dock Maintenance Checks Before Boating Season

The recent weather has taken a toll on many docks and boat lifts in the past several days. From below freezing temps last week to the unseasonably warm temps this week, a lot of damage is found around waterfront properties at the Lake of the Ozarks. If you have a dock and boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks, consider going through these maintenance checks before you use your dock this spring.

Inspect Dock for Damage

The frozen water combined with the lowering lake level has created a dangerous combination for docks across the Lake of the Ozarks. If you can visibly see damage, it's important to recruit the help of a professional to ensure your dock is fixed property and to code. Even if there is no physical damage visible to the eye, it's a good idea to have your dock checked out by a professional to ensure no unseen structural damage has occurred.

Conduct a Lift Maintenance Check

Your boat lift was put through the ringer with the recent temperature drop and ice quickly forming across the Lake of the Ozarks. Ice forming against your lift can quickly cause damage to the metal bracing that supports your lift. It's important to schedule a boat lift maintenance check at the Lake of the Ozarks before you move your lift up or down this spring.

Schedule Electrical Inspection of Dock

With docks being pulled away from the shore and many cat walks being stretched to the max, the electrical hook ups and lines to your dock have likely been compromised. Dock electrical is not something to leave to chance. Ensure your dock electric system is inspected before you start using your dock this season.

Even a week later, the ice is still THICK and causing damage to your dock and lift!

We recommend having your property looked at before you start using your dock and lift this boating season. Our boat lift maintenance crew has already been called out to conduct checks on lifts so be sure to call now to get on the books before the warmth of boating season is here! Contact Summerset Boat Lifts at 573-348-5073 today!

Popular Boat Storage Options

Traditionally, a boat would be removed from the water and stored on land during the off-season. While that is still an option, many boat owners prefer to store their boats on the water during the winter months. Not every boat in our area has a trailer and it can be tricky to find one the right size and shape for the specific boat you're wanting to store. And finding space to store your boat on land can also be difficult in our area. As the best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks, we know it's important to be informed about all of your boat storage options as winter quickly approaches.

Trailer Your Boat

Storing a boat on a trailer is a common storage method if you have a trailer for your boat. It does require some time and ramp access to trailer your boat and store it. There is also some added cost of land storage or storage unit fees.

Store at Marina

Many marinas around the area will offer storage options for the winter months. The professionals can remove the boat from the water with a trailer or crane and safely store your vessel on land. Again, this storage method will cost a fee for removal and storage from the marina.

Leave on Boat Lift

Leaving your boat on a lift all winter is a convenient storage solution that is relatively popular in our area. If that's your plan for your vessel this winter, it's important to have your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks inspected to ensure it's ready for the long and cold winter that's just ahead! You want to make sure your lift is ready for the tough job of protecting your boat all winter long. It's a good time to have our team at Summerset Boat Lifts inspect your lift and make sure all the moving parts and joints are looking good.

Schedule Your Boat Lift Maintenance Today!

3 Things All Boat Owners Should Focus On When Preparing for Winter

The boating season is nearing an end and it's time to start thinking about preparing your vessels for the cold winter. Winterizing your boat should be a top priority in the coming weeks. While there may still be a few nice days for a boat ride, you should be thinking about scheduling your fall boat lift maintenance at the Lake of the Ozarks and your boat winterization. This week's blog is all about the three things you should focus on as winter comes our way.

Winterize Boat

It's important to winterize your boat and PWC before it gets too cold. During the winterization process, the fluids will be drained from your vessel. This can help prevent the liquid from freezing, expanding, and cracking an important component of your boat. This time of year is also a great opportunity to make any mechanical or cosmetic repairs. From buffing your paint to repairing a chip to breaking down the engine - winter is the best time to have these types of repairs completed. Your boat isn't being used anyway!

Prep Your Dock

Your dock goes through a lot as the temperatures drop. The floatation devices can be damaged by the lower lake levels of winter if your dock sits on dry land. The sharp rocks and tree branches in the lake can puncture these flotation devices, as well. If the water around your dock freezes, it can damage these tubs, as well. Your dock being frozen in one place can be rough on the structure, especially on the catwalk and connection lines. If you have water lines ran to your dock, consider winterizing it, as well. Another way to prepare your dock for winter is to ensure all the bracing and structure is sound and ready for the potential weight of ice and snow.

Check Your Lift

Your lift works hard during the off season. Not only does it hold your boat out of the water, but it also protects it from the harsh winter weather. Up on a lift is a safe place for your boat - as long as your lift is in good working order. That's where we come into play! This time of year is a great opportunity to ensure your lift fittings and bracing are all in place and tight. This is an important step as you get your lift ready for winter - especially if your boat is being stored up on a lift. The last thing you want is to find your boat in the water when checking on your dock this winter!

Here at Summerset Boat Lifts, we pride ourselves on providing the highest level of service and highest quality products for our customers. As the best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks, we know how important it is to have your lift serviced and maintenance performed before the long, cold winter arrives. Give us a call today to schedule your fall check up on your Lake of the Ozarks boat lift!

Schedule Your Fall Boat Lift Maintenance

It's officially fall and that means the boating season is nearing an end. As we reflect back upon the summer filled with memories on the lake, it's time to ensure your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks is prepared for the months ahead. It's important to perform regular boat lift maintenance at the Lake of the Ozarks and Summerset Boat Lifts not only helps build and install the toughest lifts around, we can help ensure your lift is well maintained, too! Check out a few of the reasons why you should schedule your fall lift maintenance today.

Ensure your lift is ready for winter.

The winter months can be rough on a lift and if there is already damage, it may cause further damage or worse, complete failure. A boat lift check up this fall can help ensure your lift is ready for the upcoming months. Protecting your boat is vital and a lift that's functioning correctly is a great way to protect your vessel!

Repair any damage from the summer months.

The rough waters at the Lake of the Ozarks can take a toll on your dock and boat lift. If your lift has seen a lot of action over the summer, now's the time to get it looked over. It's important to catch issues before the cold of winter set in. These repairs can be made early on that way further damage is not caused by the damage.

Replace bushings that wear down.

The moving parts of your lift can wear out over time. A lift inspection can help you become more aware of issues that may impact your lift. The repetitive up and down motion of using your lift all summer can wear out the moving joints and now's your chance to ensure your bushings are in good working order!

Protect your boat this winter.

You spend a chunk of change on your boat and we're here to help you protect your investment. Even when you're not using it, your boat needs protecting. A boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks can do just that! Keeping your boat up and out of the water this winter, a Summerset Boat Lift has a very important job. Ensure your lift is ready for the upcoming months and schedule your lift maintenance today!

Schedule Your End of Summer Lift Maintenance

Your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks saw a lot of action over the past few months. Visually Inspect Lift

A visible issue may go overlooked but our technicians are trained to spot potential problems that may seem like something normal. We can visually inspect your lift to ensure everything looks good and will be ready to protect your boat during the off-season.

Check Moving Parts

The moving parts get worn out over time and now's the perfect time to ensure they are working well. We can help lubricate the moving pieces to help prevent further strain on the joints of your lift. This can also help keep plastic or rubber pieces of your lift from drying out and cracking.

Tighten Fittings

Fittings can wiggle lose over time. With the waves and constant up and down of the busy summer on the lake, nuts and bolts may move around a bit. We take this opportunity to tighten all the fittings and joints down to offer a stable lift for your boat this winter.

Spot Potential Issues

If something may be an issue in the near future, we can catch it early on. A timely repair can be done and have your boat back up and protected in no time. Have confidence in your lift as we move into the off-season when you may not be keeping as close of an eye on your lift as you maybe would during the summer months.

Preventative maintenance on your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks can help catch a problem before it causes your lift to fail. There's nothing worse than finding your lift has failed or broke during the off-season. Keep your boat protected all fall and winter when you have a lift check performed by Summerset Boat Lifts! Boat Lift Maintenance Tips

Your boat lift is likely not something you think about until it's time to use it. If a lift is not properly maintained, it may not work as it should. You depend on your lift to protect your boat and to make it easy and safe to get in and out of your boat. Our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks knows it can be frustrating when a lift does not work right. This week, Summerset Boat Lifts is providing some tips to help ensure your lift is properly maintained. But don't forget to read till the end, the last one is the easiest for you!

Boat Lift Maintenance Tips

Follow these boat lift maintenance tips to ensure your boat lift is always in proper working condition:

1) Start with a complete visual inspection of all moving parts, bushings, hoses and hose clamps. If you see something that doesn't quite look right, give Summerset Boat Lifts a call to come to check it out.

2) Check all nuts, bolts and hose clamps with a wrench for tightness.

3) Check all cables and hoses for any broken strands, punctures, etc.

4) Grease the gears several times per year. It's recommended that you grease them after every 15-20 uses.

5) Due to normal wear and tear, the drive belt can become loose, so be sure to tighten it regularly.

6) Remove the motor cover and clean out any debris that may have gotten in there. It's also a good idea to inspect the motor for any visual damage or part wear.

7) Spray all motor parts with a corrosion preventative lubricant semi-annually.

8) Check carpeted bunks for worn areas and tears, repair or replace them as necessary.

9) Inspect the condition of wood bunks and replace them if any are cracked or split.

10) Whenever possible, raise your lift out of the water and give it a good rinse. Leaving it submerged for prolonged periods of time can reduce its life. Rinsing it regularly will keep your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks looking and functioning like new!

11) Let Summerset Boat Lifts ensure your lift is properly maintained! We don't only build the best boat lifts at the Lake of the Ozarks, we pride ourselves on offering high quality service for our customers, as well. Treat Your Boat Lift as You Do Your Car!

Preventative maintenance of your Lake of the Ozarks boat lift can eliminate that emergency that ruins your vacation and costs you more money than necessary.  A little maintenance goes a long way in preventing emergency calls.  When it comes to taking care of your boat lift, you should treat it the same way you would your car. Check out these boat lift maintenance tips from BoatLiftUS.com.

Boat Lift Preventative Maintenance Tips

  • Grease the gears at least 3 times a year.  You can grease them more frequently if the lift is used regularly, grease after every 15-20 uses.  With new installations, its recommended to grease the unit after the first 5-10 uses.
  • Due to normal wear, the drive belt can become loose over time.  Be sure to re-tighten it regularly.
  • Whenever possible, raise your lift out of the water and rinse it.  Leaving it submerged for prolonged periods of time accelerates deterioration.  Rinsing will keep your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks looking and functioning like new!
  • Visually inspect any cables and or hoses regularly for any broken strands, punctures, etc.
  • Visually inspect the motor and bearings for any damage or part wear.
  • Visually inspect all working parts for signs of excessive wear.
  • Spray all motor parts with a corrosion preventative lubricant at least twice a year.
  • Its also recommended to operate your lift occasionally during the off-season or extended periods of no boating activity to keep the motor contacts and brushes clean and everything evenly lubricated.
