Avoid These Common Boat Issues with a Lift

Properly caring for your boat can help increase the lifespan of your vessel. There are many potential hazards that come along with storing your boat in the water. A boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks can protect your boat in a number of ways. From banging around your slip on a rough water day to the buildup of fungus on your boat's paint, a boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks can help protect your investment. Here at Summerset Boat Lifts, we know your boat provides a lot of fun times and memories for your friends and family and we can help protect that source of joy!

Algae Growth on Bottom

When a boat sits in the water, algae beings to build up on the bottom where the boat surface touches the water. There are all sorts of dirt, grime, and algae found in the lake and these particles will quickly build up on your boat surface, if it's in the water 24/7.

Damage to Boat or Dock

A boat lift can help protect your boat. Keeping your boat raised out of the water can help prevent damage to your boat. With the rough waters at the Lake of the Ozarks, your boat will likely beat and bang off your boat dock over and over. This repeated bouncing around will quickly cause damage to both your boat and your dock.

Damage & Discoloration to Paint

The algae and other growth that takes place on the boat surface can damage the clear coat on the bottom of your boat. This will require regular cleaning and fresh coats of paint and clear coat throughout your boat's life. Help prevent this unnecessary damage when you store your boat out of the water.

Mussels Attaching

The Lake of the Ozarks is known to have zebra mussels. These mussels cling to hard surfaces (like boats that are sitting in the water) and take over. A mussel attaching to your boat can cause significant damage over time.

Outdrive Corrosion

Your boat is made to be in the water but over time the water can cause corrosion to your outdrive. The ability to store your boat out of the water can help increase the longevity of your vessel.

Now that you know a few of the way a boat lift can protect your investment, you're ready to call the best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks! Contact Summerset Boat Lifts today and we'll build the best boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks to fit your unique boat and dock needs.

Protect Your PWC with the Right Lift

From canoes to cruisers, our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks has been living your dreams since 1982. Boating season is upon us and many people are hitting the lake to practice social distancing. Riding around on a PWC is a fantastic way to stay distant from others while having a blast out on the water. After you've jumped waves and cruised around, you'll want to ensure your PWC is properly protected when it's not in use. Check out the details below about our Lake of the Ozarks PWC lift options.

SINGLE PLACE

The flagship of our PWC line, the poly tank front-mount unit is quite capable of withstanding any water conditions. The design of the frame gives a smooth modern look and superior strength. The flotation tanks are some of the largest in the industry and this means you WILL have dry feet when you want to maintain or cover your craft, GUARANTEED.
Capacity: 1,200 lbs.

DOUBLE PLACE

The Double-Place Personal Water Craft lift is an extension of our popular single place design. For considerable price saving over purchasing two single’s, the double is available in several configurations. The width of the frame can be fit to most popular slip widths including 10, 11, 12 & 14’. The frame is also ideal for the discriminating boater that wants to fully deck the unit.
Capacity: 2,200 lbs.

PERMAPORT

The PermaPort floating platform is an alternative in the PWC storage market. The PermaPort has a self-centering entry roller for easy drive-on and five additional keel rollers to make the push off effortless. A key feature is the expanded poly foam fill that gives positive floatation should the shell become compromised – other brands are simply “filled with air” and will “fill with water” when punctured… The front-mount bracket has been upgraded to be Lake of the Ozarks friendly as well.

SIDEMOUNT

The side-mount mechanical lift is available for the homeowner with property line issues. It’s a space-saver in that the footprint on the dock is only 5 1/2 feet instead of 11 feet.
Capacity: 920 lbs.

Now that you know all about our Lake of the Ozarks PWC lift options, you're ready to make a decision as to which style is best for your dock and PWC needs. Give Summerset Boat Lifts a call today and we can help you weigh the options to decide which is best for your unique situation. We look forward to protecting your PWC all summer and winter long!

Required:

Life Jackets
Not only for your own safety, but also to follow state law, you need to have enough life jackets on board for everyone. According to Missouri state law, children under the age of seven are required to wear a life jacket at all times while on board a watercraft, unless they're down in the cabin. You are also legally required to have a throwable flotation device on board at all times.

Boating Registration and License
Make sure your boat registration is current. It's important that you're following state laws while operating your watercraft. If you were born after 1984, a boating license is required by law. Ensure you've taken and passed the boaters safety course and have needed license to prove so.

Fire Extinguisher
All boats are required to have a fire extinguisher on board. Ensure your extinguisher is in good working order and up to date with boating regulations. Also ensure everyone on board knows where it is located, if someone needs to access it in a hurry.

Encouraged:

First Aid Kit
It's important to have a well-stocked first aid kit can help make sure you can address incidents, everything from small nicks and cuts to sea sickness. You can either buy a kit or make your own that includes gauze, band-aids, scissors, latex gloves, cotton balls, antiseptic lotion, pain relievers and tweezers. This should handle the majority of minor injuries that may take place. If something is more serious, ensure the injured person gets medical attention immediately.

Food and Water
One of the most important things about being out on the water is staying hydrated. Make sure you bring enough bottled water for everyone on board. Depending on how long you're planning on being out on the Lake, you should also bring lunch or at least some snacks. It can be easy to get caught up in a day out on the water but it's important to stay nourished.

Sun Protection
If you're spending any amount of time outside, it's important to apply sunscreen. Even if it's cloudy outside, some of the worst burns can happen when it's overcast. Have plenty of sunscreen with SPF of at least 30 on board for your boating crew. If you have small children, a 50 SPF or higher is recommended.

Now's the perfect time to prepare your boat for the upcoming season. Boating may be the only getaway you and your family can experience while practicing social distancing. Whether you're getting to-go orders from waterfront restaurants, cruising down the lake on a beautiful day, or trying to reel in the big one, boating is a fantastic way to enjoy the great outdoors right now! As you're preparing your boat for the busy season ahead, ensure your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks is in good working order. Our team can come perform boat lift maintenance on your lift.

Top 5 Spring Boating Safety Tips

Spring is here and boating season is upon us! Many have extra time on our hands due to recent regulations on social distancing. Summerset Boat Lifts knows there's no better place to distance yourself than your boat! Take the family out for a cruise or get away with a solo fishing trip, your boat can help you enjoy the great outdoors while keeping your distance from others. As more and more boats are out on the lake right now, our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks is going to cover some boating safety tips.

1) Stock your Boat

Ensure your boat is ready for the season ahead. This involved making sure you have enough life jackets on board for all passengers. You also need to have boat registration, a throwable PFD, and a fire extinguisher on the vessel. Gather these items before you hit the water this spring!

2) Bring Clothing Layers

The temps may be warm but the feels-like temperature can drop once you're out on the boat moving. The cooler wind across the water and the boat moving can both cause the temperature to feel much cooler than it is. It's best to be prepared and pack some additional layers for your spring boating outing.

3) Check Weather

Missouri weather can change within minutes. It's best to check the forecast before dropping your lift and heading out on the lake. If you're already out and notice a shift in weather, head back to the safety of your dock. Being out on the lake during a storm is dangerous. It's best to keep an eye on the weather before you launch and while you're out boating.

4) Be Aware of Surroundings

The water level is still relatively low and there is an increase in boat traffic on the lake. Keep an eye on other boaters and be aware of low water areas. With lower and fluctuating water levels, it's best to steer clear of low spots. Hitting the bottom can cause serious damage to your boat, cause injuries to you and your passengers, and bend or break your propeller.

5) Share Boating Plan

Someone on land should know your boating plans. This involves the area in which you're planning to travel and your estimated time of return. If you aren't back within a reasonable amount of time of your planned return, this information can help if a search needs to be conducted.

Bonus Tip: The water is still much colder than the air. Jumping or falling in the water may cause your body to go into shock and make it difficult to breath and swim to safety. It's best to wear a life jacket when you are around the water, especially this time of year.

The best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks wants to remind everyone to take extra precautions as boating season takes off this spring. There may be an increase in boat traffic due to area businesses closing or allowing employees to work remotely. Remember to be aware of your surroundings when boating on the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks!

Spring Boat Lift Maintenance Checks

As boating season nears you may start preparing for your first time out on the lake this spring. Before you lower the boat for the first time this season, there are a few boat lift maintenance checks you'll want to perform on your Lake of the Ozarks boat lift. Ensuring your lift is ready for the first movement of the seasons can help prevent any damage or further damage to your lift. Here at Summerset Boat Lifts, we've provided a list of things you should check as you gear up for boating season.

Inspect Lift for Damage

If your lift has visible damage, it's important to have that repaired as soon as possible. A broken brace or support arm could cause your lift to fail and your boat to end up damaged and in the water. If you notice a broken piece on your lift, it's best to stay away from the boat as it could fall at anytime and contact a boat lift maintenance company at the Lake of the Ozarks immediate.

Check for Clearance

The winter months mean lower lake levels. Ensure your lift has adequate clearance below your slip. Hitting the rough and rocky ground can cause damage to your lift. From jolting and knocking the bracing lose to a rock puncturing a tank, there are many potential dangers that lurk at the bottom of the lake for your boat lift. Another thing to consider is any other items that may have moved underneath the water. Ensure your lift is clear of any tree stump or other underwater obstacle that may have shifted locations throughout the winter months

Lubricate Moving Parts

The moving joints of your boat lift have been stationary for the past few months. With the freezing temps and mixed in warm days, the moving parts may have some extra friction. Before lowering your lift, lubricate the lift arms and joints to ensure a smooth transition through the stages of the lift can be achieved by these brackets.

Schedule Lift Maintenance

It's best to have a professional come check over your lift before you can be certain it's ready for the busy boating season ahead. Our maintenance crew can be over to your dock and inspecting your lift in no time! Contact us today to schedule your boat lift service at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Not only is it important to prepare your boat for the season, you'll want to ensure your Lake of the Ozarks boat lift and dock are in proper working order, as well. Our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to help as you prepare to de-winterize your summer toys. Check out some tips below:

Replace Fluids in Boat

In the fall we winterize, in the spring we de-winterize. Now's the time to schedule your de-winterization. This is when all the anti-freeze fluids can be flushed out of your boat and motor, and be replaced with proper fluids for a season full of family, fun, and new boating memories!

Visually Check Over Boat Lift

Before lowering your lift down for the first time, ensure all lift arms and joints look as they should. If there is visible damage, contact our boat lift maintenance department immediately! Our team can help repair your lift and hopefully get you squared away before causing any further damage to your vessel.

Ensure No Damage to Dock

Look at and around your dock the first time you visit your boating area for the season. Ensure no physical damage is visible. Don't forget to check the water level. Low winter levels can leave your dock sitting on dry land, which can cause various problems to the tubes holding up your dock and potentially your lift if it gets lowered. Be aware of this potential damage and do what you can to be proactive.

Deep Clean Your Dock and Boat

Winter grime can leave your dock and water toys looking dull. Liven them up with a fresh clean look! Take some time to clean up your dock and boat to prepare for another awesome season on the water at the Lake of the Ozarks!

Call the Pros:
