Do I Need a PWC Lift?

Do you need a lift of your personal watercraft? The answer is YES, of course! Just like with a boat, your personal watercraft is an investment that you want to protect. By purchasing a PWC lift at the Lake of the Ozarks, you don't have to pull your jetskis or seadoos out of the water after each use. You can store them at your dock, so they are ready to hit the water whenever you are! Keep reading to learn about the PWC lifts that we have to offer here at Summerset Boat Lifts.

Importance of a Watercraft Lift

No matter the size of your boat, a lift is crucial for keeping it in tip-top shape. Leaving your watercraft in the water for extended periods of time can cause blistering and other damage to your watercraft. The waters at the Lake of the Ozarks can be quite rough during the summer, even if you're just docking your PWC to run in for a quick lunch, it can easily get banged up from hitting against your dock. In addition to preventing corrosion and damage, a lift will save you time and resources taking your watercraft in and out of the water all the time.

Our PWC Lifts

At Summerset Boat Lifts, we offer a variety of PWC lifts to meet your needs. For a single PWC, we offer a sidemount and a front-mount option. We also offer a double place style for those with more than one PWC that needs lifted.

Sidemount PWC Lift
The Galva-Hoist sidemount mechanical lift is available for the homeowner with property line issues. It's a space-saver in the fact that the footprint on the dock is only 5 1/2 feet instead of 11 feet. The capacity for this PWC lift is 920 lbs.

Single Place PWC Lift
The flagship of our PWC line, the poly tank front-mount unit is quite capable of withstanding any water conditions. The single-tank, by design, will hold your machine higher out of the water than a two-tank system would. This means you WILL have dry feet when you want to maintain or cover your watercraft, GUARANTEED!

Double Place PWC Lift
Cruising around the Lake is always more fun with a friend! If you have more than one PWC to lift, this is the way to go! The double-place personal watercraft lift is an extension of the ever popular single tank design. For considerable price savings over purchasing two singles, the double is the perfect solution. The double is also available with a full deck.

Whether you're in need of one of our personal watercraft lifts or a bigger lift, there's no better place to go than Summerset Boat Lifts! We are proud to offer the Galva-Hoist product line of floating boat lifts! They're engineered to withstand the rough waters that the Lake of the Ozarks experienced each year. No matter what brand of boat or dock you have, the Galva-Hoist boat lifts provide great value and performance. Our new lift sales are complimented by pre-owned sales to fit your budget. Contact us today at 573-348-5073 for more information about our watercraft lifts at the Lake of the Ozarks!

4 Benefits of Owning a Galva-Hoist Boat Lift

No matter what brand of boat or dock you have, the Galva-Hoist boat lift is a must. It provides great value and performance. Keep reading to learn about the benefits of owning a Galva-Hoist boat lift from Summerset Boat Lifts.

1. Galva-Hoist is Lake of the Ozarks Made.

Why choose the Galva-Hoist over other brands of boat lifts? The Galva-Hoist line of floating boat lifts is manufactured at the Lake, for the Lake... Lake of the Ozarks that is. This lift is specifically designed to and extremely capable of withstanding the roughest waters at the Lake of the Ozarks.

2. Protect Your Boat From Damage.

During the summer months, the lake waters can get pretty rough, especially if your boat dock is on the main channel rather than back in a cove. When your boat is sitting in your dock and those rough waters hit, the boat can move around in the slip, bumping into the dock and causing damage to your boat and/or your dock. Having your boat up on a boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks will reduce the likelihood of that damage.

3. Get Dry Storage in a Wet Environment.

When your boat is on a lift, it is raised up out of the water. Keeping your boat dry prevents algae from building up on the bottom of  your boat. This reduces the amount of time and effort you have to put into cleaning your boat. The lift creates a dry storage space in a wet environment. No need to take your boat out of the water and store it somewhere else when not in use. During the winter months, you can keep your boat up on the lift and then it's ready to launch when spring rolls back around.

4. Reduce Your Boat Maintenance Costs.

By keeping your boat up over the waterline, you're not only decreasing the amount of cleaning needed, but also the amount of maintenance. Keeping your boat dry helps prevent excess wear and tear that's caused by the water and things in the water. For example, you won't need to repaint the bottom of your boat as often. You can also avoid issues in the boats structure due to wet storage and decrease the chances of needing repairs due to damage from floating debris.

The best part about our Galva-Hoist boat lifts at the Lake of the Ozarks is that they come in all shapes and sizes to meet your needs. From personal watercraft lifts all the way to custom 46,000 lb lifts, we have you covered! Give Summerset Boat Lifts a call at 573-348-5073 for all your Lake of the Ozarks boat lift needs.

5 Reasons Boats Often Sink in the Spring

Spring has sprung and the thought on everyone's mind is that boating season is quickly approaching! One thing that could quickly put a damper on your fun this spring, is finding out your boat has sunk. Not only would you have to deal with an insurance claim, but you would also have to wait for your boat to be fixed. In today's blog, Summerset Boat Lifts discusses some reasons why boats often sink in the springtime.

Common Reasons Boats Sink

1. Loose Hose - One of the most common reasons why boats sink in the spring is due to a hose issue. It is possible that when the hose was taken off to winterize the engine, the hose clamp was overlooked. A poorly attached hose can easily be lifted off the seacock as water freezes and expands inside. As long as the water remains frozen, the boat is fine. However, in the spring when that ice begins to melt, the boat can sink.

2. Unattended to Leaks - Due to the automatic bilge pump keeping the bilge dry during the warmer months, leaks can go unnoticed. Over the winter though, the battery, and therefore the bilge pump, may go dead. With the pump not working, water can begin to accumulate.

3. Heavy Rains - Heavy spring rains can cause water to seep in through poorly caulked ports, hatches, chainplates and deck fittings. If scuppers become clogged by leaves and other debris, water can pool on the deck. In many cases, boats with a low freeboard only need to sink a few inches before outlets become inlets.

4. Broken Sea Strainer - When water is left in the intake sea strainer, it can freeze and break the bowl. If the seacock is open, the boat will sink as soon as the ice thaws. Even if the seacock was closed, if you open it in the spring and then leave the boat in the slip, it could sink.

5. Loose Stuffing Box - If a stuffing box isn't tightened before the boat is left for the winter, even a small steady drip can eventually swamp a boat. While this could happen over the summer as well, it's more likely during winter and early spring as you're less likely to regularly check on your boat during that time.

Lessons Learned

Regardless of the season, be sure to routinely check on your boat. When spring rolls around, be sure to thoroughly check your boat for any issues that may have arisen over the winter. BoatUS.com has a great Spring Fitting-Out Checklist that you can follow. It only takes an hour or two to ensure peace of mind that everything on your boat is in tip-top shape for the boating season ahead!

To further ensure your boat doesn't sink, invest in a Galva-Hoist boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks. By lifting your boat up out of the water for the winter, you can decrease the likelihood of a variety of different issues, including a sinking boat. If you're in need of a new boat lift, contact your premier boat lift dealer at the Lake of the Ozarks, Summerset Boat Lifts at 573-348-5073 today. For those of you that already own a lift, be sure to schedule your spring boat lift maintenance before hitting the water for boating season! We're here to make sure your boat lift is working properly, and doing it's job of protecting your boat.

Make Boat Maintenance a Breeze with a Summerset Boat Lift

One of the main benefits of keeping your boat on a boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks is in regards to maintenance. By keeping your boat up out of the water, you are able to minimize the regular boat maintenance needed. Investing in a boat lift from Summerset Boat Lifts now, will save you money in the long run. Keep reading to learn how boat lifts help make boat maintenance a breeze!

Reduced Boat Maintenance

When your boat sits in the water for an extended period of time, you could experience hull delamination, intake fouling and more on your boat. By investing in a Lake of the Ozarks Galva-Hoist boat lift, your boat will stay dry and out of the water when not in use. While boats and other watercraft are designed to be used in the water, they weren't designed to be stored in water for long periods of time. Eventually, the water, and contaminants in the water, will effect the integrity of the boat. By raising your boat up on a lift, it will be easier to keep your boat clean. A clean boat bottom will not only reduce the likelihood of frequent painting, but also result in better boat performance and fuel efficiency. Significanlty reduce costly wear and tear on your boat by storing it above the water line with a lift from Summerset Boat Lifts.

Common Boat Maintenance Issues

When you store your boat in the water for long periods of time, a variety of issues can arise. Here are just a few common problems you could encounter:

Offshore Powerboat Racing

The largest unsanctioned powerboat races in the U.S. are happening this weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks. Powerboats have traveled from across the country to the best recreational lake in the U.S for this annual boating event. In today's blog, Summerset Boat Lifts takes a look into the history of offshore powerboat racing, and we even threw in a few fun facts about powerboats for you to enjoy.

The History of Offshore Powerboat Racing

Offshore powerboat racing was first recognized as a sport in 1904. A race took place across the English Channel. Soon after, the American Powerboat Association formed in the United States. The first U.S. powerboat race was held on the Hudson in 1904. Over the next few years, the sport increased in popularity, with 10 different races being held during the 1917 season. In the 1980s, the sport entered the catamaran and then the "superboat" era. The 1000 cubic inch total engine displacement restrictions were lifted for boats over 45 feet, and soon, 3- & 4-engine boats sporting F16 fighter canopties replace the venerable 35- to 40-foot deep vee hulls that had been the sports top category for 20 years. Modern races are short, track style events with much improved viewing for spectators and the different categories of boats have multiplied far beyond the basic 4 classes of the past.

Powerboat Fun Facts

1. Many powerboats are driven by a high-speed jet of water as opposed to a propeller screw.

2. The design of a catamaran powerboat is based on geometry and not weight. Since they have two hulls, they are very stable. That's why they are so difficult to tip and the likelihood of having an accident is much less.

3. Power catamarans come equipped with at least 2 engines. They bring together the best features of powerboats and multi-hulled ships.

4. In the 1920s, racing boats adopted "planing hulls" for skimming across the water at high speeds, rather than traditional deep v-shaped "displacement" hulls.

5. Post World War I, metals and fiberglass became more popular materials for building boat hulls, as opposed to wood.

6. The fastest powerboats can speed over 200 miles per hour.

7. As of 2007, all powerboats are required to have a protective crash box installed for safety.

8. F1 powerboats are actually tunnel hull catamarans that usually have a weight of around 860 lbs, 260 lbs of which is from the engine.

9. During the Prohibition, fast boats were used as "rum runners" transferring illegal liquor from larger vessels waiting outside U.S. territorial waters to the mainland.

Come check out all the catamarans and other powerboats at Super Cat Fest at Camden on the Lake! Our race dock outfitted with a Lake of the Ozarks Galva-Hoist boat lift, work platform and the class act WindShip helo parking up top will be there all weekend long. If you like big, beautiful, fast boats, Super Cat Fest at Camden on the Lake is the place to be this weekend! The best boat lift dealer at Lake of the Ozarks hopes to see you there!

The 6,500 lb lift is an ideal capacity for almost every Tritoon on the Lake of the Ozarks. For any of your smaller boats, a 4,000-6,000 lb lift will do the trick. The mechanism and structure of these lifts are well suited for the rough waters here at Lake of the Ozarks.

8,000 & 10,000 lb Lifts

Our 8,000 lb boat lifts are unique to the industry in that the structure has c-channel on the bottom of the tanks! The lower structure creates a rigid box dispensing the weight of the boat across many more load points than the competition. The 10,000 lb boat lift utilizes the same structure and mechanism, but allows the opportunity to grow into a bigger boat utilizing the same lift.

12,000 - 17,000 lb Lifts

Our 12,000 to 17,000 lb lifts are heavy duty 6-arm mechanisms, designed for the rough waters of the Lake of the Ozarks. Our 14,000 lb lift is the first to offer 3 tanks; this allows for the added capacity and does a great job keeping those big boats level.  Capable of lifting many of the 34 and 35 foot day cruisers, the 17,000lb lift is again "best in class".

20,000 lb and Bigger Lifts

The 20,000lb lift is an 8-arm mechanism ideally suited for many 37 to 41 foot day cruisers. The 24,000lb lift is available in 8-arm or 10-arm mechanisms, with a 4 tank system. The lift offers a superb weight to width ratio in stability for your boat. Anything larger than that can be custom built just for you!
