Stop! HOLD EVERYTHING!!! Have you scheduled your boat winterization?

Let Summserset Boat Lifts be proactive instead of reactive with maintaining your boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks this fall! Your boat was built to float, but will it while winterized?  Some won't!

Winters can be quite brutal at the Lake of the Ozarks and you never really know what to expect with this back and forth weather we've been having.  Now is the time to make sure everything with your boat and boat lift are in order before the unexpected happens!

Winter In-Water Boat Storage

Whenever a boat is stored in the water, it's in a continuous battle to keep the surrounding water out. That battle gets considerably more difficult in the winter when ice might damage sections of your boat.  This is where your Lake of the Ozarks boat lift comes in.  With your boat raised out of the water, you don't have to worry about water seeping in or ice causing problems.  However, you need to make sure your boat lift is properly maintained for operation during the colder months to come.

Boat Lift Maintenance

Many people think to winterize their boat, but often forget the importance of preparing the boat lift for the off-season as well.  At Summerset Boat Lifts, we pride our service and that's what sets us apart from everyone else.  We want our customers to relax knowing their boat lift will make it through the winter!

We'd love to check your lift out for proper operation and any maintenance needs prior to your boat being winterized!  Contact us today at 573-348-5073.  We are Summerset Boat Lifts, and we are Lifting Your Dreams… From Canoes to Cruisers!

How to Make the Most Out of Boat Shows

Boat shows present a great opportunity to get special deals, rebates and incentives on boats, boat lifts, accessories, trailers, clothing, electronics and more great stuff for your boat. However, sometimes they can be confusing, overwhelming and intimidating. To get the most out of a boat show, you need to go in prepared. Here are some tips for making the most out of your boat show experience:

1. Calculate a Budget.

In the heat of the moment its easy to choose the fanciest boat you see.  The smart thing to do is to create a budget before you even enter the show room.  If you find a boat that doesn't fit within what you can afford, you know you need to move on to the next option.  There will be tons of boats, boat lifts, accessories and more to choose from, each with different price ranges to fit your budget. Check out this handy boat loan calculator to get started: http://www.discoverboating.com/buying/financing/loancalculator.aspx.

2. Don't Make One of These Boat Buying Mistakes.

With all the excitement going on at these types of events, boaters can be rushed into a decision that they later regret.  This can be avoided if you just do a little homework before entering the show. Here are some of the biggest mistakes people make when purchasing a boat:
  • The kids needed a head, but the boat didn't have one.
  • The boat didn't have a big enough motor and was too bulky for skiing.
  • The boat wasn't large enough for a large family.
  • The bed was too short leaving the feet hanging over the end.
  • There wasn't enough room for the knees when sitting on the head.

3. Ask Intellegent Questions.

If you've done your research ahead of time, you know what questions you need to ask to find the perfect boat.  Think about what you will primarily be using the boat for, such as waterskiing, fishing, or long trips, who will be using the boat and any other needs you may have when it comes to boating. Having these things in mind will help you narrow down your boat selection and you'll have more time to ask the right questions about each of your prospective boat options.

4. Compare All the Options.

Take advantage of the fact that you have hundreds of boats, accessories and more all in one spot. Instead of jumping on the first thing that interests you, use this opportunity to compare different models.  Shop around for the best quality at the right price for you.

Start doing your research now because the boat shows are coming soon!  Mark your calendars for the Lake of the Ozarks Marine Dealers Show September 19-21.  Stay tuned for more information about the show in next week's blog.  Summerset Boat Lifts will be there ready to answer all your Lake of the Ozarks boat lift questions!
