Basic Pirate Lingo
Pirate lingo is rich and complicated, but here are a few words from TalkLikeAPirate.com for you to brush up on for this fun-filled weekend. For more pirate slang, check out this pirate glossary: www.PirateGlossary.com.
Ahoy! - "Hello!"
Avast - a phrase meaning to stop and give attention, such as "Check it out!" or "No way!"
Aye! - "Why yes, I agree most heartily with everything you just said or did."
Aye aye! - "I'll get right on that sir, as soon as my break is over."
Arrr! - not to be confused with "arrrgh" (the sound made when you sit on a belayin' pin), means several things such as "yes," "I agree," "I'm happy," "I'm enjoying this," the possibilities are endless.
Beauty - the best possible pirate address for a woman. It's always preceded by "me," as in, "C'mere, me beauty."
Bilge Rat - The bilge is the lowest level of the ship, and therefore it's an insult to call someone a bilge rat.
Bung Hole - Victuals on a ship were stored in wooden casks. The stopper in the barrel is called the bung, therefore the hole is called the bung hole. Use it when dinner is served to say, "Well, me hearties, let's see what crawled out of the bung hole."
Grog - an alcoholic drink, usually rum diluted with water, but can refer to any alcoholic drink besides beer. Water aboard ship was stored for long periods of time in slimy wooden barrels, so the rum was often added to kill the rancid taste.
Lubber - or "land lubber," which is the seaman's version of land lover, mangled by typical pirate disregard for elocution. It is someone that does not go to sea, but who stays on land.
Smartly - means do something quickly; you might say "Smartly, me lass," when sending the bar maid off for another round.

At Summerset Boat Lifts, we can lift anything from canoes to cruisers and everything in between. While personal watercraft are going to be less expensive than a yacht, they're still an investment. In order to protect that investment, you'll need a Lake of the Ozarks personal watercraft lift. Summerset Boat Lifts manufactures 3 types of personal watercraft lifts.
1. Sidemount
The Galva-Hoist sidemount mechanical lift is available for the homeowner with property line issues. It's a space-saver in the fact that the footprint on the dock is only 5 1/2 feet instead of 11 feet.
2. Single Place
The flagship of our PWC line, the poly tank front-mount unit is quite capable of withstanding any water conditions. The single-tank, by design, will hold your machine higher out of the water than a two-tank system would. This means you WILL have dry feet when you want to maintain or cover your craft, GUARANTEED!
3. Double Place
The double-place personal watercraft lift is an extension of our popular single tank design. Purchasing one offers considerable price savings over purchasing two single's. The double is also available with a full deck.
Summerset Boat Lifts is proud to offer the Galva-Hoist product line of floating boat lifts! They're engineered to withstand the rough waters that the Lake of the Ozarks experiences each year. No matter what brand of boat or dock you have, the Galva-Hoist boat lifts provide great value and performance. Our new lift sales are complimented by pre-owned sales to fit your budget. Contact us today at 573-348-5073 for more information about our watercraft lifts at the Lake of the Ozarks!
Labor Day Weekend is here! While most of you know that Labor Day is a holiday designed to celebrate the hard work and achievements of American workers, many focus on that fact that we all get a 3-day weekend. We are busy organizing weekend plans, like what to eat, where to watch fireworks and what other activities to participate in with family and friends. Do you ever think about how this holiday came about though?
History of Labor Day
Labor Day was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894. Learn a little more about how Labor Day originated with this video from History.com:
Labor Day Facts
1. Original Labor Day festivities included speeches, a picnic, an abundance of cigars and Lager beer kegs mounted in every conceivable place.
2. Labor Day started in Chicago as a protest campaign in support of the 8-hour work day.
3. The first Labor Day celebration in New York City was designed as a way to appease city workers after numerous strikes and in some cases even violence.
4. Oregon was the first state to declare Labor Day as a state holiday, followed in suit by Colorado, New York, Massachusetts and then New Jersey.
5. Labor Day has been celebrated on the first Monday of September ever since President Grover Cleveland declared that day Labor Day in 1894.
6. In the 19th century, Americans worked 12-hours, 7 days a week.
7. The Adamson Act was passed on September 3, 1916 to establish an 8-hour work day.
8. There is still a Labor Day parade in New York City that takes place throughout the 20 blocks north of the 1882 labor march.
Labor Day is still celebrated all across the country, and even around the world. Traditional Labor Day activities include parades, picnics, barbecues, fireworks and other public gatherings. Today, Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, when the children have headed back to school and the weather is about to change again. Summerset Boat Lifts wishes you a Happy Labor Day Weekend! Be safe out on the water, the lake will be busy for the holiday. It is engineered and designed with safety and convenience in mind!
Firstmate Benefits
The Firstmate Boat Lift Remote Control isn't just an accessory, it's a safety net for the following:
Your Boat - will automatically add air when the lift goes into the water.
Your Dock - keeps your lift up from the undercurrent of those rough waters here at Lake of the Ozarks.
Your Lift - will add air if there's air restriction in the tanks or if there is a leak in the hose.
Your Guests - will hold your boat in place during boarding and debarking.
Your Wallet - increases the resale value of your lift.
