3 Perks of Owning a De-Icer

The temperatures are LOW and it's the time of year when the lake can start freezing over, especially in shallow coves. If you aren't prepared with a de-icer at the Lake of the Ozarks, now is the time to get yours ordered. Our Lake of the Ozarks boat lift company knows how important it is to keep your dock, boat lift, and boat safe from ice damage this winter. Last year we experienced record ice damage. The ice forming around docks coupled with the winter drawdown of the dam caused extensive damage all around the area. Help prevent that damage when you purchase a Kasco De-Icer from Summerset Boat Lifts this winter!

1. Worry Less Knowing Your Property is Ice-Free

When you have a de-icer installed and running, you don't have to worry about ice forming against your dock. Whether you live at the Lake of the Ozarks full time or you have a vacation home on the lake, it's a huge benefit to know your dock is set up to avoid ice damage before the temps start dropping this winter. Worry less this off-season when your property is protected with a de-icer.

2. Avoid Costly Dock and Lift Damage

Your dock is designed to move as the water moves. When ice forms around it, it cannot move. The inability to flex and move was the water moves around it causes the cables and structure of your dock to twist and potentially break. This is when extensive damage is caused. Avoid the cost of structural damage to your dock when you have a de-icer running in the water next to your dock.

3. Stay Inside (and warm) this Winter

Many homeowners were on their docks in the freezing cold last winter trying to free the ice from around their docks, boats, and lifts. This is very dangerous! The risk of falling in the water is much greater when you are working and leaning over the edge of your dock, cutting away the ice. It's also miserable to be outside in the bitter cold temps. Stay warm inside your home this winter & let a de-icer protect your dock!

What are you waiting for? Now's the time to ensure your dock, boat lift, and boat are all protected this winter. Contact the best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks to get your Kasco De-Icer purchased and installed. Our team will be on your dock installing your de-icer at the Lake of the Ozarks before you know it!

Top 3 Reasons to Invest in a De-Icer

The winter weather will be here before long and our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to help keep your dock protected this off season. We are proud to offer the Kasco De-Icer to help prevent ice from forming against your dock this winter. Don't be caught off-guard like last year -- prepare for the winter weather NOW!

1. Worry Less this Winter

If you have a de-icer you don't have to worry about the water freezing by your dock. The de-icer will keep the water moving, therefore, preventing the ice from becoming solid. This can also help prevent you from having to go down to your dock in the freezing temperatures and checking on your dock all the time. When it's that cold outside you should be able to stay in the warmth of your home.

2. Protect Your Investment

You spend a lot of money on your water toys - protect what you've worked so hard for with a de-icer. This can help protect your dock, boat, and lift by lowering the chance of ice to form and causing damage to your property.

3. Save on Costly Repairs

Ice can cause dock, lift, and/or boat damage in a number of ways. If your dock has ice all around it, it is unable to move like it naturally does. This can actually cause your dock lines to snap due to excessive tension. Your dock floats can also be damaged from ice forming against or hitting the tubs. Ice can cause your boat lift to malfunction and in some cases leave your boat to fall into the water.

How Our De-Icer Works:

Kasco De-Icers are known throughout the world for their quality, durability, and effectiveness. The Kasco D-Series De-Icer became a staple of the industry by tackling some fiercely challenging applications. The de-icer works by moving large volumes of warm, bottom water to the surface. This eliminates and prevents ice formation around boats, docks, pilings, bulk heads or any other property you need to be protected from damaging ice formation. The water flow eliminates damaging ice expansion and ice jacking, as well as provides excellent aeration for winter months. The unique design of this product provides superior flow and excellent energy efficiency to solve your de-icing needs in a cost effective manner. By using a Kasco De-Icer, you are ensuring your property is protected from the harsh winter conditions.

Top Reasons to Invest in a Dock De-Icer

As we near winter, the temps will continue dropping. That means we'll have freezing temperatures before too long. Our boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks knows how dangerous freezing temps can be for your boat, dock, and lift this winter and we're here to help. We are proud to carry Kasco de-icers to help protect your investments during the cold winter months. Check out a few of the reasons why you should invest in a dock de-icer at the Lake of the Ozarks today!

What does a De-Icer Do?

A dock de-icer sits in the water and pumps warm water from below the surface around your dock moving. This warmer water movement helps prevent ice from forming near your dock. Ice can cause all sorts of issues for docks, boats, and lifts, especially in the winter months when many issues go unnoticed.

REASON #1: Reduce the Risk of Structural Damage

Freezing water can wreak havoc on the structure of your dock. From twisting the bracing to applying so much pressure a vital piece gives way, it's best to keep ice away from your dock.

REASON #2:  Keep Dock in Place

Ice forming against the side of your dock can lead to strain on the free movement a dock is supposed to have. If this free movement is limited, it can potentially put pressure on your dock. This pressure can eventually cause structural damage or cause a dock line to snap, leaving your dock partially unsecured on the water.

REASON #3: Avoid Tub Puncture

Tub floats keep your dock float. Ice forming next to a tub can actually lead to cracking or puncturing of the plastic or rubber surface. These tubs are expensive to replace and could actually lead to further damage. A damaged tub can cause structural damage and potentially lead your dock to sink down into the water.

REASON #4: Good for Wildlife

De-icers help oxygenate the water. This is important for keeping many water species healthy during the winter months. When an entire cove or other body of water is completely frozen, it can be very hard on the wildlife under the ice and a de-icer can make your water a healthier ecosystem.

What are you waiting for? Now's the time to start preparing your summer toys for the winter weather that will soon be upon us. Contact the best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks today to order your Kasco de-icer to protect your boat, lift, and dock all winter long!

Prevent Ice Damage to Your Dock & Lift this Winter

Since we had our first freeze of the winter recently, we thought it would be the perfect time to talk about our in-water de-icer to help protect your dock and boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks this winter. If the last week has been any sign as to what we can expect this coming winter - it's going to be a cold one! With the cold temperatures comes ice on the lake. Ice can cause damage to your dock, boat lift, and even boat. Learn how you can help protect your lift with a de-icer from Summerset Boat Lifts below.

How Ice Causes Damage

Ice heaves can occur in bodies of water of all sizes. It's very easy for ice to damage a dock. The freezing water expands, melts, refreezes and expands again causing enough pressure to damage anything still sitting in the water. Large ice chunks floating in the lake can also move with the current, hit your structure with great force and even get stuck and start to build up. To put it in perspective, sometimes ice heaves are powerful enough to move trees. More commonly though, the ice damages docks, lifts and retaining walls. Your dock and your lift are both susceptible to ice damage. When a dock freezes, it becomes less flexible and does not move with the water as the levels reduce. This causes structural stress that can lead to joint breaks and twisted boat lifts.

Consider Investing in a De-Icer

One of the best and easiest ways to protect your dock and lift from ice damage is to purchase a de-icer. The primary function of a de-icer is to protect your boat dock and lift from icy waters. It's your best defense against costly damage to property due to ice formation and expansion. By creating water movement, a de-icer keeps the water around your dock from freezing. Thus, reducing the likelihood of damage to your boat dock and boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks this winter season. In addition to the de-icer, you should have a professional come check your lift to add antifreeze to the hoses. If you can prevent the lake water around your dock and lift from freezing, you'll be able to avoid the majority of damage caused by winter weather.

Now that you know a little more about our de-icer at the Lake of the Ozarks, you're ready to make your purchase. Contact the best boat lift company at the Lake of the Ozarks today. We can help get your de-icer purchased and installed by your Lake of the Ozarks boat lift. It's the best way to protect your dock, boat lift, and boat this winter!

Protect Your Dock During Winter Drawdown

While we haven't seen much snow or ice yet here in mid-Missouri, winter has arrived. The temperatures are dropping and the water levels in the Lake of the Ozarks are dropping. The annual winter drawdown is something that waterfront property owners need to pay special attention to, as their docks can be affected by the change in water depth.

Winter Drawdown

At the Lake of the Ozarks, lake and river fluctuations occur for several reasons. In order to prepare for the winter flood season, the levels of the lake are lowered. This makes room in the lake for possible runoff produced by winter storms or melting snow and ice. Also, during the winter months, there is a higher demand for electricity; therefore, water levels will change when Bagnell Dam releases water to meet this need for electricity.

Lake of the Ozarks Docks

While the winter drawdown is necessary to prevent flooding and provide electricity, it can cause issues for dock owners at the Lake of the Ozarks. Now is the time to prepare your docks for the lower lake levels that are to come in the coming months. Here are a few things you, as a dock owner, can do to avoid damage to your dock this winter:

  1. Check to make sure your dock isn't pinned or hampered by any stumps or other objects that would prevent it from moving up and down with the fluctuations in water levels.
  2. Inspect all dock cables and bolts for any loose or rusting parts.
  3. Be sure to drain all water lines.
  4. Raise your Lake of the Ozarks boat lift to ensure that it is holding air as it should.
  5. Lengthen your dock cables to allow the docks to drop.
  6. Make sure that you have a deicer to keep the water around your dock from freezing and causing major damage.

Don't let the water level fluctuations damage your dock - get prepared now. For all your winter boat lift needs, contact Summerset Boat Lifts at 573-348-5073. We have deicers available that can protect your dock and boat lift throughout the winter months, ensuring that you're ready to hit the Lake come springtime.

As Summer Sets, Avoid the Deep Freeze!

Winter is just around the corner and the temperatures here at the Lake are already dropping. Before the snow, ice and freezing temperatures arrive, you should prepare your dock and boat lift at the Lake of the Ozarks. Frozen water can cause a lot of damage to your dock, boat and boat lift.  This problem can be solved by adding a de-icer to your dock.  Summerset Boat Lifts has you covered with our Kasco De-Icers at the Lake of the Ozarks!

What is a De-Icer?

A de-icer is a device you can place on your dock to prevent ice formation and expansion which can cause costly damage to your property.  By providing superior thrust and water movement, a de-icer pushes the warm, bottom water to the surface to prevent or eliminate ice formation.  This creates an ice free area of protection around your boat, dock, pier or other property installed in the water during freezing tempuratures of the Winter season.  This ice free area will not only prevent damage from ice jacking and expansion, but it can provide protection for fish and other aquatic species by allowing for areas of oxygen to enter the water.

What type of De-Icer do I need?

De-icers are available in many different varities: 1/2 HP, 3/4 HP or 1 HP, and 120V or 240V.  A 1/2 HP de-icer will work well with a one-well dock or in a situation where you simply "bubble" your own slip in a community dock.  A 3/4 HP de-icer is suggested for two-well docks.  Multiple de-icers may be required for full coverage depending on the size of your dock.  Air / Water thermostats are also available to limit the run time.  The Summerset Boat Lifts staff is here to ensure you get the right de-icer for your dock!

De-Icer Features and Benefits

Kasco is the preferred De-Icer of Summerset Boat Lifts at the Lake of the Ozarks.  Their De-Icers are your best choice for ice prevention and property protection  The rugged and efficient design of the Kasco De-Icer delivers powerful performance with simplicity of use and operation.
